Green Lantern Corps and Silver Surfer
If there is one death at DC I would like to undo, it's that of Katma Tui. I always liked her character and was glad when she became a romantic interest for John Stewart, thinking she would get more to do. Unfortunately that made her ripe for a sacrifice to motivate John and her fate was sealed. It hurt even more when the grisly moment of her death at the hands of Star Sapphire was illustrated by legendary Green Lantern artist Gil Kane, making it seem more "real" to me. I thought that with her appearances on the animated Justice League Unlimited, she would make a comeback but alas I have not seen her return.
Oh yes this is great!
ReplyDeleteIf Marvel can permanently revive Bucky Barnes, against the unwritten "rules," then there's hope DC will eventually do the same for Katma.
ReplyDeleteAs for this cover? Astounding concept! Makes me wonder how Galactus would do against, say, the whole planet Apokolips with the entire Silver Lantern Corps to throw against Darkseid's New Gods?
DC could easily revive Katma: After all, they've rebooted reality itself at least twice since her original version's death...
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, they seem to have decided by now that John belongs with 'Fatality'.
The one DC death that I most regret? There are so many to choose from... probably Sue Dibny's, and the whole retconned rape story associated with it.
But then there's the E2 Huntress and Robin, and Kole, during Crisis -- and the original Aquagirl, ditto -- and the original Atom & Dr Midnight during Zero Hour... and... and... and...
At least Ted Kord got a defiant last word (and some hopeful nearly-last thoughts about possible successors) in...
Gail Simone brought back Sue (and Ralph) Dibny in the Nu52 SECRET SIX. Ted Kord should return in the Rebirth titles.

ReplyDeleteAha! Iron Beetle and Silver Lantern! There's the team-up that needs to happen! (With a little help from Access, I think.)
ReplyDelete@Bob Buethe: nope! In fact, Silver Lantern's wrong. The _true_ Silver Age of DC didn't end until the tragic--and undeniably needless--death of the Earth-1 Supergirl in COIE #12!
ReplyDeleteThe twenty years following that insipid conclusion were the _true_ Bronze Age.
Excellent cover. How do you manage to make a new one every day? Is it a full time job or something you do in your free time? You could teach comic professionals like Rob Liefeld and Kevin Smith about work ethic and time management so they could get their work out at a faster pace.
ReplyDeleteThanks... I tend to work on covers early in the morning and late at night. I try to stay ahead of the blog so even if I fall behind I won't miss a day of posting. It's worked so far but it is time consuming.
ReplyDeleteWell, you're doing a good job of it, Ross. I've noticed that you usually post each day's new cover around 8:30 A.M. (Eastern Time). Hence, your more early-rising readers should not despair. :-)

Yes, I've seen the "returned" Ted... who, in fact, had already appeared in the New 52 anyhows: However this version is a Ted who's never been a costumed crimefighter.

On the subject of the Green Lantern Corps, can any of you remember DC ever clarifying what the Lanterns' default instructions when not doing missions under direct orders from the Guardians are?
Are they supposed to uphold a Guardian-defined set of "laws" regardless of how well or badly those match local laws? Are they supposed to uphold the "local" laws instead, regardless of how well or badly those fit any specific code of ethics? Are they supposed to prevent interplanetary warfare, in which case the rise of Mongul was obviously a failure on their part? What???
Great cover, and a crossover that really should happen! Galactus vs. Mogo would be an excellent showdown.
ReplyDelete@Ross: Katma's bound to come back before long. Geoff Johns probably knows where she sits in Hypertime as we speak, and in one or two reboots we'll find out that she's been here all along but stolen from our memory by the diabolical actions of the Green Loontern and the Oz-Wonderland War's White Rabbit.
@Simreeve: That's a good question! It does seem like there are times when Hal probably could be stopping some galactic catastrophe, but instead he's, like, teaming up with Batman to stop the Tattooed Man.
I believe that question was already answered by my namesake, Bob.
ReplyDeleteYes, he did. And I concur with Anonymous #1's sentiments!
ReplyDelete@Ross: didn't she briefly come back as one of the Black Lanterns during "In Blackest Night"?
