Robo Force was the first team that I created for
STF: The Lost Issues, so I have always had a soft spot for them. I like when groups have an artificial life form among them in comics, so an entire team made up of AI characters just seems like it would be a lot of fun.
This is Robo Force's third appearance on the blog - they Battled Ultron in
STF #202 and first became a team back in
STF #150...
Let me be the first one to--officially--congratulate on this landmark issue. And, you're right: an all-robot team does sound kind of fun. But, as the LOST IN SPACE robot seems to have been left out, I can't help feeling that his reply to your statement might be a very spiteful:
ReplyDelete"Fun?! That does not compute."
I think "Robo Force" was the name of a toyline that was out for a few months when I was a little kid... blocking robot action figures with suction pads on their base, if I remember correctly.
ReplyDeleteI love the composition of this cover. And, looking at that Kirby image in the foreground, it suddenly struck me that Machine Man never looks right when drawn by someone other than Kirby. Somehow, other artists always made him look boring and generic.
ReplyDeletejrp04f: You are correct, at least if you were "a little kid" in 1984. According to the Wikipedia entry, ROBO Force even had a revival a couple of years ago.
ReplyDeleteThat said... Ross, you've made this into an epic story that yearns to be told -- if only the IPR negotiations weren't such a potential nightmare.
Reminds me of my old idea for a re-imagining of the Metal Men, with Viridium (I may be the only person who liked the "Doc as a Metal Man" era), Platinum, Mercury, and Tin from the old team, paired up with Steel (John Henry Irons), Steel (Hank Heywood), Cliff Steele (Robotman), and Red Tornado.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how this team would fair against Brainiac.
ReplyDeleteI've wondered that as well...
ReplyDeleteHave you done a Black Panther and Phantom cover yet?
ReplyDeleteNever mind Brainiac; how would they do teaming up with (or, in a misunderstanding, going up against) Magnus, Robot Fighter?!?
ReplyDeleteOOOOOOH... I second Bob Greenwade's idea.
ReplyDeleteI third it...so long as the manipulative bad guy turned out to be Iron Man 2020.
ReplyDeleteGreat cover, Ross. Catching up on the blog after a busy few weeks.
ReplyDeleteA few Weeks, it's been 5 years since this post! Glad to have you back, Christopher!
