Green Lantern and Space Ghost

Continued from yesterday's cover, we see that The Watcher's warning was not an idle one...

I am glad to see that Space Ghost has found a home in comics again in the pages of Future Quest.  Now that DC has a Hanna-Barbera imprint, I hope we will see some real crossovers between the two sets of characters - GL and Space Ghost would be a great place to start.

  1. I have always loved Space Ghost. I watched his cartoon when I was a kid, and I always thought it was cool to see him sometimes interact with some of the other characters, such as the Heruloids. It was disappointing to me to see what was done to him with Space Ghost Coast to Coast. I thought they depicted him as a washed up superhero with nothing else to do but host a talk show. Then I saw him team with Batman in a teaser on a Brave and Bold cartoon. I think that a full story on that would have been cool. After seeing this pair with Lantern, I think like you, Ross. Hopefully we will see some crossover stories featuring Space Ghost and/or other Hanna-Barbera characters along with the DC characters. I think Space Ghost and Adam Strange would be an interesting paring. Thanks again for these cool ideas of yours.

  2. Thanks, Mickey - I hope you saw the Space Ghost / Adam Strange two-parter on this blog from a while back...

  3. How about the Jetsons with the Legion of Superheroes?

  4. Or Quick Draw McGraw with Jonah Hex?

  5. Batman and Top Cat?
    Vandal Savage vs Captain Caaaaaaveman?

  6. If this actually happened, DC could just open my wallet and take what they wanted. They'd be pretty disappointed, but the action would be very symbolic.

  7. Yes! A GL/SG crossover is just the thing! Almost as cool would be Hawkman and Blue Falcon! (Or maybe Batman gets some help from Gloop and Gleep in dealing with Clayface.)

Like Mickey, I watched the Space Ghost cartoon as a kid, and loved his adventures -- especially those wrist-bands of his. Seeing how those would look next to GL's power ring would be worth the price of admission just by itself, and seeing how the guy's personality would mesh with that of Hal Jordan or Kyle Raynor would give the story some nice interactions.

  8. Space Ghost rules! I would love to see him team-up with the likes of ADAM STRANGE, NOVA, and the SILVER SURFER.

  9. Part of the reason the original 1966-68 version of "SPAAAAAACE GHOOOOOST" remains so popular is that he was never given an official back story. The recent attempt to do so (involving a framed alien cop) was alright. But, it was a lot closer to STAR WARS, in general nature, than the H-B cartoon series of yore. Hence, I don't officially count it as his true origin.

  10. I've thought for a long time that it's a crime that nothing was being done with the with the Hanna-Barbera superheros. In fact, many years ago I wrote a letter to Paul Levitz outlining my idea for a team composed of Birdman, Young Sampson, Frankenstein, Jr., Ugh (of Dino boy fame) and the Blue Falcon (minus Dynomutt). He wrote me back a very polite rejection letter. My plan was to guest star other H-B superhero/adventure characters such as Space Ghost, Race Bannon and (don't laugh) Inch High Private Eye!

Like Mickey above, I too never cared for Space Ghost Coast to Coast. I also had a full on geek-attack the first time I saw the (all to) brief team-up between Batman and Space Ghost on the Brave and Bold cartoon. So yes... I'm looking quite forward to the Future Quest comic. I'm pleased that it will be written by Jeff Parker because I feel that he is one of the few writers in comics today that can pull off the delicate balance of making these characters acceptable to a modern audience without losing the essence of what makes them so cool to begin with. Needless to say, I would LOVE to see the H-B character interact with traditional DC characters.

  11. P.S. I hope that GL and SG find Tintin....

  12. Bob G, which Clayface do you mean? I'd suggest Scooby Doo and the gang as naturals to join Batman against Basil Karlo.

Narrator: And so, Space Ghost and the Green Lantern fly out to rescued the missing Tin Tin. Meanwhile, outside the Hall of Justice, those relentless pursuers of right against wrong, Thomson and Thompson are about to arrest... Plastic Man???

  14. I always wanted Hanna Barbera to do a cartoon crossover with Mightor and Captain Caveman, since they're both from the same time period and both get their powers from a club.

  15. Oooh ooh! Is it too late for requests? make it so Lady Lunar and Moonstone are the kidnappers!

  16. For all the Aussies out there, we need Mr. Squiggle to save the day. Upside down of course. Mr. Squiggle, the Man from the moon!

  17. To me, the animated version will always be my image of Clayface (as I've never read any Clayface stories in the comics). But for these purposes I suppose Cassius Payne would be the best fit.

  19. Bob G, I had to look up Cassius Payne. Now I can see why you paired him with the Herculoids. To me, though, Clayface means Basil Karlo the bitter actor or Matt Hagen, who also looked like a human, not a blob.

  20. I LOVE IT!

It reminds me of the Council of Doom story arc from Season 2 of "Space Ghost:TOS."

  21. Is this, Green Lantern/Space Ghost (coming out IRL in three short weeks), the first time one of your daydreams has actually come true?

  22. Man-Bat/Scooby Doo and Captain Kirk/Planet of the Apes beat it to the punch in that regard.

  23. Three now! You should post a special "Gallery of Honor" or something!!

    Very impressive!

  24. Well, you've started getting your wish, Ross. Although, the real-world cover for Space Ghost and GL was a tad misleading.

  25. I hope you are aware that DC Comics actually granted your wish with these two characters a few years back in the DC MEETS HANNA-BARBERA special (2017)! It featured a Space Ghost/Green Lantern team-up along with several other wild pairings of DC heroes with H-B cartoon stars. GL and the Ghost even got to be on the cover!
