This cover comes about from a suggestion by Tim Stellmach. Not only was it a great idsa, Tim is a
Patron of this blog in good standing, so how could I refuse? This would be one heck of a match, both are able to evolve to adapt to battle, so neither would go down easy.
Who knew when we were reading about these bad guys in the 1990's that they would both be making their big screen debuts one day? That day is here for Doomsday, and Apocalypse is not far behind him. It's a fun time to be a comics fan!
Metropolis would definitely NOT have a Good Friday with these two in town.
ReplyDeleteCary understates. This battle would leave the JLA, X-Men, Avengers, Titans, Fantastic Four, and whoever else showed up hard pressed to keep these two from laying waste to the entire Eastern Seaboard.
ReplyDeleteGreat thinking, Tim; and well-executed, Ross!
Damn! Now that reallt would be a hell of a fight. I'm gonna give the nod to Doomsday though outlasting Pocy. Apocalypse has to recharge/hibernate every so often after taking significant damage.
ReplyDeleteI see Pocy sending his Four Horsemen after Doomsday to weaken and study him, but Doomsday runs right through them no matter who they are, leading up to the big battle between the two. I see Doomsday winning 'cause there's no way Apocalypse can beat him, even with all his considerable power. He can't reason or bargain with him or turn him into a new Horsemen, so yeah, Doomsday all the way.
One minor quibble though, that can't be Jim Lee's rendition of Apocalypse. Doesn't fit the style and and image search didn't pull up this version of him under Le''s art. You sure Jim lee drew this? Looks more like early Brandon Patterson, or Art Thibert trying to draw like Lee to me.
The whole idea of this match-up is brilliant- and I say this as someone who's really not a fan of either character. I've been trying to think of other villains with names that would fit the theme- surely, there's got to have been a villain named Armageddon at some time or other- but I've come up empty.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that these two also have names that mean roughly the same thing. For a sequel, you could throw Ragnarok in there with them. :)
ReplyDeleteJust got back from seeing BvS: DoJ, earlier this afternoon. And, you might say the screen writers slightly "ret-Konned" Doomsday's comic book origin.

The epic battle ends when Squirrel Girl knocks both their heads together. xD
ReplyDeleteHow about Galactus vs. Q?
How about Galactus v [DC's] Mr Nebula?

How about Despero having a chess game with Marvel's Grandmaster of the Universe?
ReplyDelete@Simreeve: With the Silver Surfer vs. the Scarlet Skier as the undercard! xD
ReplyDeleteOh yeah: Opening fight: Lockjaw vs. G'Nort!
