As a kid, I loved the humor and movie/TV parodies in
Mad Magazine, but what really drew me to it was the art. Sergio Aragones, Don Martin, Al Jaffe, Antonio Prohias and Dave Berg, among others, showcased a variety of artistic styles, and I loved them all. While Aragones was probably my favorite, nobody ever used sound effects as effectively as Don Martin. "Poit" will forever be the sound of a finger poking someone in the eye to me.
capt klutz and capt underpants needs to occur also supergoof and underdog or capt carrot or super grover
ReplyDeleteAlso Inferior Five and Forbush Man.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention this one is gold...
ReplyDeleteThat is AWESOME! :D
ReplyDeleteMad magazine was awesome back in the day...I now must go back and re-read Sergio Aragones Destroys The Marvel Universe and Sergio Aragones Destroys The DC Universe!
EXCELLENT!
ReplyDeleteAn over-used superlative, perhaps. But, definitely not in this case. In fact, this "cover" renews my hope that someday I'll see...
...Darkseid vs. Pureheart the Powerful!
"...Sergio Aragones Destroys The DC Universe!"
ReplyDeleteThat had one of my favorite lines of all time: "I will show them that I am George Perez rolled into one!"
Poor Galactus! He's had his share of appearances here with alot of strange combinations, all great! I agree, those Mad artists were some of my favorites and could always get a laugh! I'm hoping Captain Klutz comes back, maybe with Sergio's Mighty Magnor? Certainly Sergio and Don Martin are at the top of my list of best humor artists!
ReplyDeleteDo I get to tell people that this came up from my suggestion, Ross? :)
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of one of the great lines from "The Librarian: Quest for the Spear": "The fate of the world is in my hands? That is just so... sad."
Sonofjack was right. You do have a wonderful talent for titles!
ReplyDeleteAs far as I'm permanently concerned, though, there will never be any topping of "Cranston Hears A Who" (from the Shadow/4th Doctor team-up). Super-LOL!
@ Bob Buethe and Sonofjack: as far as I'm permanently concerned, nothing will ever top the title for the Shadow/4th Doctor team-up.
ReplyDelete"Cranston Hears A Who."
CLASSIC!!! :-D
Captain Klutz really needs to meet Groo!
ReplyDeleteI also think he'd go well with Forbush Man!
The Mighty Hero's meet the Inferior Five
ReplyDeleteCaptain Klutz vs Godzilla and of yes Groo as well and the Impossibles teams up with The Incredibles Great Idea and Frankenstein Jr meets Gigantor or Mighty Orbots
ReplyDeleteI'd prefer Kim Possible meets The Impossibles!
ReplyDelete@Snapper Carr: some gold can tarnish.
