The Outsiders is one team that I would like to see make a comeback. There have been a few revivals over the years, but most made the mistake of not including enough of the founding members. I'd prefer Batman to be in the mix, but i would be happy with just Geo-Force, Katana, Halo, Black Lightning and Metamorpho. DC doesn't really seem to know what to do with those characters anyway - why not let them join forces again?
i agree hve them meet original outsiders or bring the villian the outsider to battle them also mix in voodoo or ravagers to meet or team up with them
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see The Outsiders make a comeback. I'd like to see The Creeper and The Demon be part of the team. It really should be Batman and The Outsiders again. Maybe revise Ralph Dibney's powers and add him as a member, since DC doesn't really plan to revisit the '80's Justice League. The Outsiders could be a more mainstream Forgotten Heroes...
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, Ross. The original pre-Crisis comic was at its best when it was BATMAN & THE OUTSIDERS. It was at its most ridiculous when Halo's Aurakle changed host bodies and Looker became the vampirized heiress to a Subterranean throne!
ReplyDeleteAs for this cover? An intriguing confronatation. I can only imagine it coming about, in a real-world intercompany crossover, through Soultaker being used on some old acquaintance of Dane Whitman's. Perhaps, while it was in the temporary "custody" of Lady Clayface posing as Katana!
WOW!! Bıttersweet memorıes of my all-tıme favorıte comıc book (after Brave & the Bold ended). Mıke W. Barr and Jım Aparo were at theır apex of creatıvıty when they were pumpıng thıs out ın the mıd to late 80s. I agree wıth you that the ORIGINAL was perfect, and I NEVER wanted new members to joın because I knew ıt would mess up the dynamıcs. The Outsıders were a tıny adult versıon of the New Teen Tıtans wıth a touch of an early'80s Avengers. Wıth the exceptıon of Wındfall (I lıked her!) I hated the addıtıon of Looker, Atomıc Knıght (wtf??), Faust, Eradıcator(?!??) What the hell was Mıke Barr thınkıng durıng the 1990s. It was around thıs tıme that I walked away from comıcs and started lıstenıng to musıc (hıp hop).
ReplyDeleteWow. So far, I agree with everything that's been posted here. What are the odds?
ReplyDeleteIt's a regular love-fest, Bob!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Barr and Aparo had a great idea, DC really let it go and like most modern "remakes" it's no longer as good! The dynamics of the characters worked great both as heroes as well as in their personalities. It reminds me of some of the best Fantastic Four stories, where their lives worked as people and as heroes. I gave up comics in 80s and when I tried to catch up in 90s most of my favorites had changed for the worst. Others have suggested DC's new owners have no clue, and I think that's the unfortunate truth. Thanks for bringing back the Outsiders and the great Aparo art!
ReplyDeletehow bout wendy the witch and scarlet witch or zantanna also invaders and outsiders for in and out

ReplyDeleteI once overheard someone in a comic shop in Bloomington, Indiana opine that he thought that Batman and the Outsiders SHOULD have been made up of Batman and the (at that time) newly acquired Charlton characters (Captain Atom, Blue Beetle, Question, Nightshade and Peacemaker).
Wouldn't THAT have been an interesting team?
@SOJ Well: Yes, that would have rocked.
ReplyDelete@Ross: This may be impossible, but how about Katana vs. Tsuruko Aoyama from Love Hina?
Or, for a more obvious choice, Lady Deathstrike?
Or how about a time-travel cover with Katana fighting and/or teaming up with Karate Kid (the rad '70s Grell costume would be best)--maybe as part of a full Outsiders/LSH team-up? ^_^
Hell of an inspired crossover with this one. What were the odds that the big two would both have heroes regularly handling possessed swords right? Comics man, comics.
ReplyDeleteI'd say the Outsiders are past due for a revival, but not under the current regime since they don't know how to properly and respectfully handle the heroes they have. That being said, the suggestion of Ralph Dibny joining the team as modern Forgotten Heroes sounds pretty good and sadly very appropriate these days.
