Here's a pairing that I am surprised has taken me this long to get to. These two really do seem to be perfect adversaries for one another. The Batman/vampire connection has of course been covered multiple times in comics and elsewhere, such as the
Batman & Dracula: Red Rain graphic novel or the
Batman Vs. Dracula animated feature.
I love how seamlessly Gene Colan's art matches....is that Neal Adam's work on Batman?
ReplyDeleteYeah, the "Bat versus bat" theme does seem to come rather naturally, doesn't it? I think that's where the idea for Man-Bat came from.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Man-Bat, I think it might be interesting to team him up with Spider-Man during the latter's "six-armed" period.
And on another topic entirely, I wonder if it would be possible to have a Voltron versus Ultron cover. (The idea just came to me over this past weekend while watching the Screen Team's "Ultron Funk" parody video.)
I bet this is one time Batman "wooden object" to the Huntress using her crossbow.
ReplyDelete;-D
Reggie, check the labels under the cover, that's where I list the artists. That's a Starlin Batman.
ReplyDeleteBatman famously encountered some vampires very early on, in his battle with the Red Monk in the late 30s. Also, in the 1970s I remember him running into a vampire in some isolated mansion (Detective 455 -- just looked it up). It wasn't Dracula, but there an interesting twist in that the vampire had hid his heart so that he couldn't be slain.
ReplyDeleteI think the last mainstream Batman story I read was the Colon vampire stories...Before Night Force...
ReplyDeletePerfect as always Ross. May I suggest you do a team up with Vampire Batman (my fav alternate version) and Marvel Dracula, or Man Bat... Or Spike from Buffy!
ReplyDeleteMy first Batman comics were during the Gene Colon run in the early '80s. Both Bruce and Dick were infected with some sort of "Vampyre" serum. I was in the 4th grade, and that storyline, with Colons amazing moody art, scared the bejeezus out of me. In fact I had nightmares (but it didn't stop me from buying the next issue!)
