The Saturn 6

Just because you are tasked with protecting the cosmos, it doesn't mean that you can't do it with an enjoyment of the job and a healthy dose of humor.  That's the idea behind this team.  I think the biggest challenge that they might face is determining who to lead the group - they all seem to be the type that are more comfortable with handing out orders rather than following them.

  1. Obviously it would be Duck Dodgers...for a few seconds, until things collapsed into total chaos.

This is why this is an awesome page: comics should be fun!

  2. Space Ghost? A healthy dose of humor??? I guess you didn't get to see any of the real Space Ghost cartoons. The tiniest bit of humor, provided by Blip and Jan and Jace... but VERY little humor at that.

  3. Space Ghost is horribly out of place with this group. Should have used Spaceman Spiff instead.

  4. I'd substitute Saturn Girl for Space Ghost.

  5. ELS & John Small - this is the Talk Show Space Ghost, so he fits right in as far as I am concerned!

  6. I have to agree with the others' assessment of Space Ghost. I would have recommended Captain Simian or one of the other Space Monkeys instead.

  7. are all of persons nuts??? Space Ghost definatly belongs on the team!!! the one of these things that is not like the others is the Brown Hornet.... i mean what is his space connection??? personaly i would have included either Saturn Girl or Captain Simian or even Captain Kirk before the Hornet... even Scott McCloud, Space Angel makes more...
on a different and sad note just read on line that Leonard Nimoy just passed away...

  9. OK, you guys have me curious - Who the heck is Captain Simian?

  10. Not surprised Captain Simian rings no bells. He was a syndicated cartoon (or maybe he was part of the Paramount Channel's Saturday morning line-up) that was essentially PLANET OF THE APES meets STAR TREK. He was voiced by... I forget his name, but he was the security chief on BABYLON 5 so it seemed like good casting at the time.

Getting back to who should lead, that's a problem. All of these guys are the take charge type, but then again half of them are dumb as dirt, and there's also the plethora of speech impediments going around. Strangepork has an accent, Duck lisps, and the Hornet takes an excessive amount of dramatic pausing when he talks.

Does anyone think BH is giving Leela the eye, btw?

  11. Brown Hornet was a space hero in vignettes on later seasons of "Fat Albert". Let's hope he doesn't try to slip Leela a "mickey"!

  12. Dr. Strangepork may have been the brains of the Swine Trek. But, he was, like, third in command behind bossy Miss Piggy and narcissistic dimwit Link Hogthrob. So, because of the very absence of those other two, he would be the most logical choice for team leader. As he would be guaranteed to shine without their overshadowing him!

  13. @Ross: Since nobody else has guessed, I'll just have to bite-- does Bill Watterson get a label/tag because you took the art for the setting from a Sunday Calvin & Hobbes Spaceman Spiff strip?

  14. I don't accept the "Talk Show Space Ghost" as having been real. That character was a horrible aberration and a blight upon the original character.

  15. A team up with Jason Of Star Command (a secret section of Space Academy) & Buzz Light Year fighting The Cylon Mark III (Marvel Comics Group Battle Star Galactica Issue 16).

  16. Or, failing that, the felinoid Kilrathi from WING COMMANDER!
