This cover is the result of a suggestion by Adam Stockman. As a Patron of this site in good standing, how could I say no? John Byrne certainly illustrated some of the most beautiful women in comics. I remember being especially knocked out by his depiction of Frankie Raye in
Fantastic Four. His Ororo was always amazing as well. Thanks for the inspiration, Adam!
I remember "Babe". It was an interesting take on the broader rules of super-strong heroine trope that WW, She-Hulk, Big Barda, and so many fall under, with an interesting dash of the original Firestorm to it. Sadly, it was part of the Legends line-up that Dark Horse had going on at the time that disappeared faster than a Liefeld project today.
ReplyDeleteWell, since you opened up thıs can of worms, how about teaming up Power Pack wıth John Byrne's The ProtoTykes?? There's no turnıng back now!!!
ReplyDeleteI never heard of "Babe." When I saw today's subject line, I was expecting to see a pig.
ReplyDelete@Bob Buethe...
ReplyDeleteEither that, or the widow of Sonny Bono.
Seriously, though: I loved your 1000th issue spectacular! How about, for the 2000th issue, a team-up between Disney's Kim Possible and Hanna-Barbera's Impossibles?*
ReplyDelete*As I recall, Disney Channel had already done a semi-official crossover with Batman when they had Adam West do the voice-over for..."The Fearless Ferret!"
I do have some plans for The Impossibles...
ReplyDeleteThanks Ross! This was everything I could have hoped for (except for the fact that I can't actually read the story)! I'm curious about your inspiration for the plot lines. It's easy to see how fun it is to mix and match characters from different comic streams but how do you decide on what adventure to put them through? I would never have thought of Nightmare at the Museum for this trio yet somehow it works.
ReplyDeleteThere weren't many Babe images to choose from so I started there, saw that the Byrne WW image had the camera at the same angle, then I lookd for a She-Hulk by Byrne that would fit in as well... so it came together organically - then I had to figure out a story concept to go with the image.
ReplyDeleteThe Lost Issues is my favorite go to site, so I had to make my first comment about it. It's great to imagine these what-if team-ups. I have one that I would like to see you do : KITT, Herbie The Love Bug, and Speed Buggy.
ReplyDeleteP.S. - interesting to put such Babe in the team up with Wonder Woman and She-Hulk. I forgot about her!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of an all car team up. Might be tough to find images for, but an extremely cool concept...
ReplyDelete...but maybe if you used comic cars such as Batmobile, Black Beauty, Spidermobile, the Arrow-mobile, Ecto One and so forth it might be easier...
ReplyDeletejust an idea....
the jack-el
...oops!!
ReplyDeletehow could i have forgotten the Mystery Machine.... DUH!!!
jack-el
...and, if you want to get really obscure, DC's 5-issue Hot Wheels series.
ReplyDeleteI meant, 6-issue. (Fat fingers.)
ReplyDeleteOooh! And Speed Racer's Mach 5!
ReplyDeleteBob's suggestions give new meaning to the phrase "JLA-Detroit." With the third initial naturally standing for "Automotive."
ReplyDelete@jrp04f
ReplyDelete"...disappeared faster than a Liefeld project today."
During the interim between issues 8 and 9 of Marvel's THE TWELVE, I referred to anything similar as "pulling a Straczynski."
