I am surprised that I have never seen a real crossover between these two heroes. Maybe there is one out there that I am not aware of. They seem like a natural match, and I think that the time periods would work out. Anyway, it would be cool to see them share and adventure - stay tuned for part two tomorrow!
There was a TV cartoon (I think Filmation), and then of course Dynamite did The Lone Ranger and The Death of Zorro.

ReplyDeleteWhen the live-action Zorro with Duncan Regehr was on, I seriously wanted to see this very cross-over. It certainly would have been the show for it! The only trouble was that Zorro as a character is in the public domain, and the Lone Ranger is still under copyright.

ReplyDeleteClosest we ever got was DYNAMITE comics having the Ranger avenge Zorro's death in a mini. Wasn't a good series I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteRandom trivia: due to a translation mistake, both Zorro and the Lone Ranger were originally known as "Zorro" in my home country of Brazil. This has been corrected in later iterations of the Lone Ranger, of course, but most people still call the character "Zorro" and think Tonto is Zorro's sidekick.

ReplyDeleteActually the time elements wouldn't mesh up precisely; Zorro would have predated the Ranger by several decades. Using that as a guide, I did write a story that was published in my book "Days Gone By" that states that the Ranger drew part of his inspiration from having learned about Zorro when he was a child. ReplyDeleteI'm surprised nobody's ever done a pastiche where the Lone Ranger is Zorro's maternal grandson! The closest Hollywood has ever come to doing it, on film, is Clayton Moore playing the "Ghost" of Zorro in a medium-budget oater from the 1940's (aided by Bernardo's non-mute grandson). So, to have John Reid be, at least, half-Vega on his mother's side might be the sensible next step.
