These crime-fighting pairs may have never broken through to the A-list, but I have always been a big fan of both of them. Hawk and Dove have had several incarnations in the DC Universe and my favorite is still the original Steve Ditko team - I love the idea of brothers who work together despite their differing views and styles. Cloak and Dagger have such a cool back story and visual that I am surprised that Marvel hasn't announced plans for some sort of live action translation - I think they would be perfect for it, and there's a ton of potential there.
Another Hawk and Dove team met Cloak and Dagger in STF #479...
Cool!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that nothing compares to the rivalry of Hank and Don that transferred over to Hawk & Dove. looking at the modern updates and interpretations, nothing really appealed to me. I do think that the concept might be a little dated - stuck in the '60's. I could see Dove as more of a thinker, an investigator like Batman and Robin. Hawk more decisive and impulsive. I see them as Teen Titans staples that could spin off into a mini-series. I don't see them selling a book of their own for long.
I've only seen Cloak and Dagger in Runaways. Maybe a live action show on the CW would work...
Cool cover, but I'm still waiting for you to team these guys up with Jade & Obsidian, their DC opposites. And the Hawk & Dove images are from my fave era of B & B when they took Haney off the book.
ReplyDeleteI agree about Hawk and Dove. In fact, H&D #2 by Ditko and Skeates is one of my all-time favorite comic book stories. As much as I love Gil Kane's artwork, the book lost its edge when he took over from Ditko with #3.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Isaac, Cloak & Dagger ought to team up with Jade & Obsidian. I have little trouble imagining that their true origins are linked; if the Starheart found its way from Earth-1 to Earth-2, why couldn't part of it wind up on Earth-616 as well?
ReplyDeleteC&D&J&O will cross paths eventually, stay tuned...
ReplyDeleteIs that C&D image from the premiere issue of their original comic?
ReplyDeleteIt's a piece by Yildiray Cinar
ReplyDeleteAnother New Amalgam combo. Red Rum-18 mixed Hank Hall and Dawn Granger with Cloak and Dagger to make Shadehawk and Dovelight.
