Justice League of America Vs. Godzilla

The trailer for the new Godzilla movie has been released, and it looks very cool.  They still don't show a lot of the monster, but from the glimpses we see, it looks like the filmmakers have stuck closely to the classic design.  The special effects look to be top notch and with actors like Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen involved, I am confident the performances will be as well.  It  seems that we are finally going to have a film that makes up for the unfortunate Matthew Broderick-led Godzilla fiasco.

  1. Again, I have a minority view: I actually enjoyed the Broderick-led Godzilla movie. "Animal" and Lucy quickly became, and remain, my all-time favorite movie couple, and Jean Reno was in fine form balancing dramatic action with comedy. There were plenty of flaws, to be sure, but for me it was still an enjoyable flick.

My late best friend, who was a big-time Godzilla fan, loved it as well. She called it "Godzilla, not Gojira."

Now, let's see... So far on this site Godzilla has been faced by Batman alone, Batman with Hawkeye, the Joker, Boba Fett, Iron Man and the Rocketeer, and now the entire Justice League. And this cover proclaims, "An all-new EPIC begins here!" So who's next? The Avengers? The Doom Patrol? The Legion of Super-Heroes? Voltron? Or even (gasp) the Inferior Five???

(Voltron vs. Godzilla would be an interesting thing for me, since I have a pastiche of such a fight in one of the upcoming sequels to my novels.)

Mentioning some of those groups makes me think of the members who would be able grow to enormous size in order to fight Godzilla face-to-face: Elasti-Girl, Colossal Boy, Goliath, etc. What if you were to bring together an ad-hoc group for super-growing heroes? You could start with Ultraman, Elasti-Girl, and Goliath; I'm not sure who else would fit in, but I'm sure there are at least two others somewhere in comicdom.

  2. I was tempted to try and make a lame Jessie Pinkman joke here, but hey, I'm too mature for that.

  3. Science, Yo!

Bob, I have considered making an all-giant character team, but they are just so darn big! it's tough getting two together on a cover, let alone an entire team!

  4. Brilliant job! The lack of Aquaman sparks my imagination to weird places. Did he accidentally release the Big G? Will he save the day? Does he have any undersea subjects to pit against Godzilla? Am I a comics/Kaiju geek? Indeed I am.

  5. Aquaman and Godzilla definitely have some unfinished business... stay tuned!

  6. I'm with Bob. I liked the Matthew Broderick film. Of course I was never much of a fan of the original movies, aside from the original and "King Kong Vs. Godzilla," the later of which appealed to me only because I'm a Kong fan. (That film is the only Godzilla movie I actually own)

  7. You've definitely made me a happy G-fan, and I am also pumped by the new film. I do like the animated series that spun out of the 1998 movie, as I was a Fox Kids devotee back then.

  8. The only _good_ thing anyone can say about the "Brodzilla" film is that it was definitely way better than "Cloverfield!"
