The New Mutants and Jor-El.
One of the surprises for me in watching Man of Steel was Russel Crowe's performance as Jor-El. I came in with lowered expectations because I had just seen the man almost single-handedly destroy the film adaptation of Les Miserables (he is a talented actor, but his singing voice leaves much to be desired). I thought he handled the role of Superman's birth father well, and I was not expecting him to have so much screen time. I especially liked the extended opening sequence on Krypton, it was cool to see Crowe in full action hero mode again. I wouldn't have minded a whole film set on Krypton from what I saw there, it was a visual feast.
Ha! After seeing the title of this post, I was really hoping there was an all-cat mutant superhero team out there! Alas, it was just a small typo above one of your consistently creative and entertaining cover creations. (Kudos for making these, btw; always enjoy seeing what you do.)
ReplyDeleteHeh... well, you may just see an all-cat team on here yet!
ReplyDeleteI actually thought he was good as Javert. I think the problem was that he was trained through rock music when it came to singing instead of classical.
ReplyDeleteLook at it this way--Marlon Brando had a terrible singing voice, and he still was a star of the movie version of Guys and Dolls.
ReplyDeleteOn Ted's note, I've got an idea, one that mixes Western and Eastern comics: Wonder Woman and the Knights of the Zodiac.
I would so buy this! I've been reading comics since the age of 2 and I'm 42 now...and New Mutants is one of the 3 titles I cut my collecting teeth on when I was 10-11 years old. Love McCleod's NM art!
