Superman, Speed Racer and The Impossible Man
I have to say, if Superman lost his flight and had to find another way to get around, he could do a lot worse than that sweet ride! This was a case where I stumbled on to an image and it suggested a whole story to me.
Was that a World's Finest story that Clark drove from? Always wondered if the cars Clark used on Adventures of.. were company owned.Clark running out of gas or needing a tire changed?? riigghht!! Since Impossible Man is not magic, i'm betting that he the cheering crowd?? Nice cover!!
I don't think so. The only two WF covers I could find that involve Superman, Batman, and Robin auto-racing were May 1948 and Feb. 1951, respectively. The former involving midget race cars, the latter involving Model T's!
So, the next avenue of investigation will be vinatage Superman and Action Comics covers from the Early Silver Age.
"... plus, in our fabulous back-up feature: can even Beppo and Chim-Chim withstand the musical might of the Monkees, mind-controlled by GORILLA GRODD?!?"
@Anon649: would that be before or after Detective Chimp helped them recover their voices from Catwoman?
@Tobor: wasn't it strongly hinted in a mainstream Superman story, pre-Flashpoint, that Mxy and Impy are just differently named sides of the same dimension-hopping coin? In any case, the set of wheels Kal-El is driving on today's cover is definitely better-looking than the Supermobile he had in that Wacky Race from STF #4919 back @ October 1.
@Ross: speaking of wackiness; how about next time a private match-up between Speed Racer and Dick Dastardly? Because that's the only way you'll ever top this one! :-)
@Cary But then, there was also the Superman/Silver Surfer crossover one-shot, which showed that Mxyzptlk and Impossible Man were definitely two separate people who actually couldn't stand each other!

Didn't they once reveal that the Impossible Man and Mr Myxzyptlk (too lazy to look up actual spelling) were the same entity?
ReplyDeleteThat's a good question! Why didn't I think of asking that?
DeleteIf that IS the case, I wonder whether getting the Impossible Man to say "Kltpzxym" would banish him for 90 days?
Delete@Cary But then, there was also the Superman/Silver Surfer crossover one-shot, which showed that Mxyzptlk and Impossible Man were definitely two separate people who actually couldn't stand each other!
DeleteMore likely two separate personalities in the same body who can't stand each other (a la the Sentry and the Void in one Robert Reynolds).
Delete@Cary I dunno, the comic in question really didn't make it seem like that was a possibility. But… *throws hands up in bewilderment*
Delete@Ben W: if Impy can create his own wife and kids, anything is possible.
Delete@Ben & Cary: ain't that the truth! Now, where's my ice cream?
DeleteThe Adventures of Studebaker Man!
ReplyDeleteThis does look like the sort of thing that Mxyzptlk would do.
ReplyDeleteAnd for some reason I suddenly have this image in my mind of Mxy deciding the pester Ghost Rider.
Not to be outdone, Bat Mite switches Batman with Darkwing Duck.
ReplyDeleteAlready (out)done @ STF #915 (10/14/2015) and STF #2539 (3/27/2019).
DeleteThen, how about the Inferior Five vs. Mr. Universe?
DeleteI'd rather see Mr. Universe fight Mangog.
