Code: Red in: "The Benefactor!"
For the third appearance of Code: Red, I thought that it was time to reveal just who was behind the formation of this team. Who better than the most famous redhead in comic strips? I'm glad she's using some of that Warbucks fortune for good.
LOL! Most people might call Brenda Starr the most famous redhead in comic strips. But, Annie is certainly the original ginger-haired heroine! And I agree with you about her using her adoptive father's fortune humanitarians reasons. I remember that DC mini-series where the Shadow discovered that Shiwan Khan was being financially backed by a man who bore an uncanny resemblance to...Big Daddy Warbucks!
You could say the Shadow kept shooting till he no longer saw the whites of the man's eyes.
In Australia he is one of the best known comic strip characters. At least he war until the newspapers killed the comics pages. But being published for over a century is pretty good.
"Shouldn't the Pocket Pack fight them, instead? After all, they've only had two appearances, here, so far. And one of their members is widely considered THE Rocket Red! I am, of course, referring to Dmitri Pushkin of JLI fame.
If Little Orphan Annie formed the team then Dick Tracy could meet the team. When he stripped ended, it ended on a cliffhanger namely her kidnapping. It was resolved years later in the Dick Tracy strip.
In their next appearance, Code: Red gains a new member, with the call sign "Red 2". Who's Red 2? Anta baka? (Are you stupid?) It's Asuka Langley Soryu from Neon Genesis Evangelion!
At last, a chance to team up Starfire and Firestar...beautiful Firestar Archie Andrews is also the most famous (and bestselling) redhead in comics. But instead, this would give this would give Josie a chance to go solo from the Pussycats.

ReplyDeleteYou could say the Shadow kept shooting till he no longer saw the whites of the man's eyes.
Jimmy Olsen might be the most famous redhead in comics
ReplyDeleteAlthough maybe the group has only females.
DeleteThat's why Ross specified comic _strips_. Historically, the comic book started out as just comic strip reprints in magazine form.
DeleteGinger Meggs is also a famous comic strip redhead and he not only predated both Annie and Brenda but outlasted them both!
ReplyDeleteNever heard of him till literally this second. So, evidently, not THAT famous.

ReplyDeleteSo, he's still published on-line Down Under (even though still relatively unknown Up Over)?

ReplyDeleteLeapin' Lizards! There's Annie!

DeletePerhaps for their next appearance, this team can set out to rescue a kidnapped Lucille Ball.
ReplyDeleteOr help Big Barda and the New Female Furies take on the Red Hulk.
DeleteSo when do they face the Rocket Red Brigade
ReplyDeleteShouldn't the Rocket Pack fight them, instead?
DeleteI am, of course, referring to Dmitri Pushkin of JLI fame.

DeleteOkay, let's try this again.

That's weird! How did my postscript wind up on top?
ReplyDeleteIt's a cybernetic idiosyncrasy I call the "still-buffering jumpies."
DeleteIf Little Orphan Annie formed the team then Dick Tracy could meet the team. When he stripped ended, it ended on a cliffhanger namely her kidnapping. It was resolved years later in the Dick Tracy strip.
ReplyDeleteWhoa! And I thought the Mary Worth/Phantom crossover had been a trend-setter.

ReplyDeleteFailing that, I'll settle for a cross-dressing Jimmy Olsen. ;-)
DeleteThe ideas that come from such a quiet little get together.... Fantastic.
ReplyDeleteAs opposed to weird ideas like Code: Red vs. the Silent Partners...with Siryn trying to out-shout Blackbolt?
DeleteWhy not? Medusa's membership in CR would certainly be a plausible way to bring them together in a real-world comic!
DeleteHow can we forget Red Sonja.
ReplyDeleteShe's committed to Big Barda's New Female Furies. But, she would make a pretty good liaison for recruiting Code Red's help against Mangog!
DeleteI'd rather see Mangog clobbered by Mr. Universe!
DeleteAnd then, the creator of the Red Tornado appears: "T.O. Morrow, T.O. Morrow, I love ya, T.O. Morrow..."
ReplyDeleteWow! By the way, is that the Ma Hunkel version?
DeleteAt last, a chance to team up Starfire and Firestar...beautiful Firestar

Although, she'll probably need a helping Han.
