Wildcat and The Beast in: "Lair of the Un-Men!"

These two first started working together in STF #3954...

This cover required some background removal, replacement and extension before I could add Hank McCoy in.  Here's a look at the behind the scenes progress:

  1. Nicely reminiscent of the James Bama covers for the "Doc Savage" paperbacks of the late '60s/early '70's. I'd buy this in a heartbeat! ;)

  2. Wow… another brilliant cover. Well done. By the way… I know we’ve seen the Elementals face off against Metamorpho, but how about the Fantastic Four taking them on in a future cover?

  3. Vast library and you prove the skill to work it all!

  4. Interesting title! Makes me wonder if they're taking on some of Hugo Strange's Monster Men or some of Machinesmith's Demi-Men?*

    *Mutant-mimicking androids from X-Men v.1/#49 (Oct. 1968).

  5. I don't recall Arcane's Un-Men being cyborgs or robots. Maybe they went through a phase that I missed.

Anyway, something struck me last night about an oversight -- a pairing that seems so natural, that I had to check to make sure whether it had been done or not, and I certainly didn't find it:

Tarzan on the Planet of the Apes.

    1. @Bob Greenwade: maybe these Un-men were "augmented" by Herbert West a la Dr. Frankenstein.

  6. Dark Horse published that one for real.

    1. Ahhhhhhh... but has the venerable Magilla Gorilla ever been to the Planet of the Apes?

      Hint, hint. ;)

  7. Hey, that's an idea. "Magilla Gorilla and Captain Simian Voyage To The Planet Of The Apes."

    "This summer, only in theaters."

    1. Now, just imagine Mr. Peebles tarted up in a fur onesie, a la Linda Harrison's "Nova" in the original flick. ;)

    2. I'd rather see Princess Leia's husband pay a Solo visit to POTA while smuggling a contraband beverage called Grape Ape Knee-High.

    3. @Anon117: save that one for Deviantart.

  8. Hey would you do a cover of various pulp heroes, green hornet, spirit, the shadow, and the phantom teaming up?

    1. Or, failing that, how about Spidey, Daredevil, and Judge Parker?

    2. @Anon1114: I'd rather see Hornhead team up with his Golden Age namesake AND Wildcat! Perhaps with Battling Jack Murdock having been one of the Golden Age DD's Little Wise Guys.

  9. I wonder what these two would make of the Island of Doctor Moreau?

    1. Probably the same thing Wildcat would make of Marga the Panther Woman having a boyfriend named...Ted Grant. ;-)
