There have been rumors of a James Mangold directed Swamp Thing movie for a while now. Apparently, while it has been put on the back burner for the time being, it is still in development. Previous live action attempts with the character have not been able to strike a chord with audiences, but I still feel that there is a lot of potential with the right script and director. Here's hoping Mangold's vision finally gets realized and hits the big screen.

movie goers won't have a leading man to 'root' for!!

ReplyDeleteIts funny, since he's been made 5 times including the animated series, though none of them do great and yet he seems expensive.
They all get a cult following especially the first one with JoBeth Williams.
The beauty and the beast angle is a fundamental story in Western literature that has its "roots" going back thousands of years.
What was the first accidental chemical super being? In "true" scifi Dr Jeckyl and Mr Hyde wasn't an accident. Jay Garrick is the oldest I can think of but certain wizard spell accidents have to have been done. Goethe's Sorceror's Apprentice is 1797.
I guess Lover of Lies is from 150 AD - does this count as a precursor for swampy?
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see Swampy get some new blood in team-up partners. He's met Dr. Strange at least 3 times. Spider-Man, Magnus Robot Fighter, Gargoyle & Jonny Quest more than once as well.
ReplyDeleteMarvel's Inhumans with Timberius would work well. Captain Britian with DC's patriotic Force Of July (Mayflower) would also turn out great. Alpha Flight, Throg, Wasp, Swarm, Iceman, Sandman, Moondragon, Machine Man (It's incredible how many robots he's battled over the years), Powerpuff Girls, Great Lakes Avengers, Imperial Guard, Darth Vader (& his Stormtroopers), Captain Universe (who would be the Swamp T. connection?), Absorbing Man, Super-Skrull, Mystery Inc., & Valkyrie would be some fresh interactions.
