Guardians of the Galaxy and Firestorm

It's nice to see that Firestorm is heading up his own comic series again.  From what I have read though, it seems like a decidedly different take.  The new title seems to be leaning into more of a horror vibe with the Firestorm powers becoming sentient or something?  I'm not sure, I've only seen a few previews.  Has anyone had a chance to check it out?

  1. Not me, Ross. My hometown no longer has any comic shop franchises. Which, in this case, is probably a mixed blessing in disguise as I'm not sure I want to waste money on a nuke-powered male version of BTVS!

Re: the question posed just above this morning's title? I'm guessing it has to do with the other composite being in the GOTG that I love (and unapologetically prefer to the MCU version). Starhawk!

  2. I'm surprised he doesn't just seek out the Legion of Super Heroes, who also live in the 31st century and have their own time travel technology they'd likely be glad to help Firestorm out with.

  3. I don't follow the new DC or Marvel stuff, by and large -- Gold, Silver, and Bronze Ages are my storytelling meat -- but, even so, a horror orientation seems like an awkward "fit" for Ronnie Raymond. (Does this series focus on the OG Firestorm, or is it one of the latter new guys...?)

    1. If it's truly going to have a horror vibe, they might be better off using a Tree House of Horror version of Springfield's Radioactive Man!

  4. @ Jason: Ross likes to use Marvel characters as counterpoint. For instance; what if Bishop from Marvel Earth-1191 met the Vampire Batman from DC Earth 43 (formerly known, BCOIE, as Earth-1191)?

@ Cary: If I'm not mistaken, that's Stakar's adoptive sister Aleta in the lower left corner. So, evidently, this image of the GOTG was from one of the Ogords' un-merged periods. But, maybe that's the karmic reason Firestorm has been drawn to them. The "Hawk-God of Arcturus" needs them re-merged! And that means either Ronnie Raymond or Martin Stein is probably going to wind up as one-half of the "new" Starhawk.

    1. @Anon611: in that case, why not just recruit Lorraine "Firehawk" Reilly from Operation: Hawk (@ STF #531 back in September of 2013)? I'm sure Aleta wouldn't mind temporarily merging with her, in preference to her narcissistic brother!
