Grape Ape Vs. Godzilla
This cover comes about as the result of a suggestion from Tom Brennan, a Patron of this blog. I have to say that I surprised that this was never a real thing back in the day. Well, better late than never! Thanks, Tom!
@Anon715: I think Godzooky is ineligible due to being underage.
@Ross: For a second, I thought this was a rematch! But, then, I did some back-tracking. And their prior "face-off" turned out to be merely a promotional logo. As to why they never clashed (even by mistake) on real-world Saturday mornings? Simple: Grape Ape was on ABC and H-B's Godzilla was on NBC! And those networks didn't do crossovers, back then. Not till David E. Kelley did it with "Ally McBeal" and "The Practice."
Semi-rhetorical question; if you had your own TV network on which to show your versions of all these classic Saturday morning animated cartoons, would the call letters be WSTF or KSTF?
^ LOL! Agreed. This blog needs more Giganta. Also the 1970s cartoon Toyman too. Maybe he can fight the Transformers or the Micronauts. Rom or G.I. Joe would work too.
... plus, an exciting backup feature: Beegle Beagle vs. Godzooky!

Carycomic, think $6 Million Dollar Man on ABC & Bionic Woman on NBC with Oscar on both at the same time.
DeleteLiterally forgettable.
DeleteI mean, "Return of the Fembots"? Please!
DeleteIn any event, a brilliant and imaginative combo. Bravo (to both you and Tom Brennan)!

DeleteSTF-TV of course.
ReplyDeleteFair enough :-)
DeleteRoss always delivers! Great cover, better than I imagined.
ReplyDeleteWhat?! King Kong not included!??
ReplyDeleteNah! He was off fighting the Toho-ho Green Giant.
DeleteWhat about Titano?
ReplyDeleteOn the Planet of the Apes, stomping the banana sherbet out of Dr. Zaius.
DeleteWhat about Apache Chief or Giganta?
ReplyDeleteApache Chief already had his turn against Big G (see STF #1458 back @ 4/10/2016).
DeleteWhereas Giganta has apparently yet to even debut, here!
DeleteCary, That's Giganta's arm on this cover: https://braveandboldlost.blogspot.com/2023/11/wonder-woman-and-nighthawk.html
ReplyDeleteUncredited cameos don't count.

ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, however, it's nice to see that Wyatt Wingfoot's debut, here, comes with an official search link.

ReplyDeleteBeagley Beagley better find out who framed his pal for trashing the Callico. Because Grape Ape comes up about 260 feet short on this one.
