I'm hoping that we get a trailer for the HBO Max Lanterns series soon. It looks like Aaron Pierre as John Stewart will be the main GL of the DCU, and I am interested to see what he will do with the role. I've only heard him speak with his actual English accent, so I am looking forward to his vocalization of the character - I still hear Phil LaMarr in my head when I see John Stewart on the printed page.

ReplyDeleteI guess that means his civilian occupation will be postal carrier rather than architect.
DeleteDD having a ring could be interesting, but teaming Hate Monger with Psycho Pirate might be a little harder??
ReplyDelete"Your will is nothing compared to the power of my hate!"
DeleteWhy do I suddenly have a vision of Palpatine's face beneath that purple hood?
@Carycomic: that might explain what happened to Palpatine after his apparent overthrow post-STF 2490. He fled to the Milky Way where he plans to become a Red Lantern, so he can return to his galaxy and take back his throne! And what better way to earn a hate-powered ring than by destroying two men without fear?
Delete@Anon818: but, is this a sequel or a prequel to STF #1960 (where Hornhead first became Green Devil)?
ReplyDeleteGreat cover. It's like the final product was meant to be.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Cary... I'm envisioning a panel following this moment with John putting his right hand next to Matt's and saying, "Come on, man... 'In brightest day, in blackest night'... say it with me, man... 'In brightest day'..."
ReplyDeleteMatt: "In brightest day..."
Both: "In blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight..."
And at the end, Matt's ring is charged with half of whatever's left in John's, and they proceed to pound Hate-Monger to a bloody pulp.
Matt's radar sense?? Or could the ring restore his sight??
Delete"In loudest din, in hush profound, My ears will catch the slightest sound..."
DeleteFor the life of me I will never understand why Hollywood insists on casting British/Australian/etc actors to play American roles.
ReplyDeleteIt's an interesting choice, but it rarely happens the other way.
voice and dialect coaches fill the gap for what an actor can present (with assist).
DeleteThat certainly worked for the late, great Bob Hoskins. His vocal coaches (for "Mermaids" where he played Cher's boyfriend and for "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" as Eddie Valiant) made him sound more American than I am!
DeleteAnd John makes a construct in the shape of a giant fist and punches the Hate-Monger! There was secretly a Blue Lantern assisting the heroes, giving John Stewart enough protection to pull his punches in the fight. The sudden reversal proves that hate is powerless against hope! But who's wielding the ring? None other than Captain America!
ReplyDeleteCap as a Blue Lantern?! Who knows? Maybe Ross could do that as a sequel. The Star-spangled Avenger meeting Star Sapphire! But, with the Duke of Deception making Wonder Woman think the other two are having an illicit assignation.
Delete"...In Love & War."
One swing of the Lasso of Truth and (and learning from experience) and the plot is resolved quickly. Plot contrivances begone!
