Interesting! Did they get teleported here, from STF #4751, by Darkseid's omega beams? Or did they simply wear out their welcome at the House of Mystery?*
The big dialogue bubble in the middle of the cover is always an interesting design choice. Maybe take it all the way, and have a hole in the cover through which you see the dialogue- then the first page could feature the same words in a different visual context.
I've looked at all of Calvin's 41 team-ups & noticed he has yet to appear with a solo female character. Mary Marvel (& Mr. Tawny for a Hobbes connection) could fill that void perfectly. Also Yankee Poodle (with Alley-Kat-Abra for Hobbes connection).
I also think Hobbes being drawn into Kamandi's era (the Tiger-Men angle) or Thundarr's (with Okla & Ariel along for the ride) would also turn out great (with Calvin's alter ego).
Calvin is going to think he's going to get the better of the dark underworld but he's going to find himself in trouble - and it will spark an spiritual crisis. Hopefully, Hobbes can bail him out. Either way, he's probably daydreaming in Sunday School - something like that early Simpsons episode where Homer steals Flander's cable. Speaking of, back in the day I pictured Calvin and Bart Simpson to be played by the same actor by he had to drop Calvin as it was too much work. He was a Gary Coleman/Emmanuel Lewis type with kidney disease stunting his growth.

DeleteIf I had known, then it wouldn't be a secret! ;-D
Deleteyears ago there was this story about calvin all grown up and in the hospital one final time. forgot what it was called
ReplyDelete@my namesake: was it "Goodbye Hobbes" starring Ewan McGregor?
DeleteI think you mean this: https://www.coachmyrna.org/blog/in-the-final-moments-of-his-life-calvin-has-one-last-talk-with-hobbes

ReplyDeleteI don't think you've ever done anything here with Calvin's infamous snowman dioramas, have you, Ross?
ReplyDeleteI’ve definitely had some snow themed Calvin and Hobbs covers but nothing with the snowman yet, Bob
ReplyDeleteThe Demon acting like an evil genie? Ross, you do ..do.. different very well.
ReplyDelete"You ain't never had a fiend like me"
DeleteGOOD ONE!!! :-)

Or, if all else fails, I'd settle for Calvin-as-Spaceman Spiff alongside Dejah Thoris of Barsoom...and Hobbes with Cheetara of the Thundercats.
ReplyDeleteWould that mean Hobbes is starting to fall for a fast woman?
Delete@Carycomic: super-groaner! :-(

Daydreaming in Sunday School? That sounds more like something Ralph Phillips (from a couple of Chuck Jones' old WB cartoons) would do.
