The Phantom Stranger is a character that I really hope shows up on screen in the new DCU. I can see him showing up as a supporting character in multiple films. It would be a great role for an actor to have fun with, but who best to cast?

DeleteWell, Keanu Reeves isn't tall enough (plus I'm old enough to still too clearly remember his semi-lackluster turn as Constantine). Johnny Depp I think would be more fitting as Morpheus of the Endless. So, my top three candidates that I favor wearing the blue cloak with matching fedora, white turtleneck, and Mr. T necklace? Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, or Henry Cavill. BBT is suitably creepy (I still can't stomach watching "Slingblade" to this day). Jon Hamm proved, during his MAD MEN days, that he definitely looks distinguished in such fancy duds. And, since I don't think he'll reprising Superman any time soon, maybe Henry can return to the DCEU as this supernatural stalwart.

DeleteA slimmed-down, hair-dyed Brendan Fraser might suit the outfit. But, what perplexes me even more is the setting of this image. The first thought that occurred to me is: "What is Brother Voodoo doing in Asia?" Because, even as Dr. Strange's successor as Sorcerer Supreme (in the mainstream Marvel Universe), Haiti and New Orleans are still his most frequent jurisdictions. Then, I remembered those trailers from SINNERS. So, I did some Wikipedia-surfing. Sure enough; most modern Mississippi Delta Chinese-Americans are starting to emigrate to big cities of the Deep South! So, this could most likely be occurring in the Chinatown of Jackson, Mississippi or Atlanta, Georgia (etc.).

DeleteGotta disagree. Bob Odenkirk would be scarier as Mr. E! Save Billy Bob for a Superman sequel where Lazarus "El Diablo" Lane meets his great-grandniece Lois! Perhaps as a result of Mr. Mxyzptlk sending her back to the Old West. That fifth-dimensional imp is certainly overdue for a live-action silver screen debut!

DeleteMy first thought for the role (at least, this morning) was Cameron Monaghan; and I definitely could see Johnny Depp doing it; but hey, how about Paul Rudd?

DeleteDon Hamm needs to be cast in a DC movie in some capacity. The best role for him right now would be a live action Dark Knight Returns, as he's aged into it. I could see him as Phantom Stranger though.

DeleteThat would have been great casting, but unfortunately, Tony Todd passed away last November. Perhaps, he could be cast as a very realistic Daniel Drumm.

At first glance, I thought the youngster might be Chance Falconer from the Leave it to Chance comic from Image/DC Comics. She was the 14-year-old daughter of famed paranormal investigator Lucas Falconer and regularly battled demons, ghosts, monsters, etc etc.
ReplyDeletePhantom Stranger, the Justice League's official, unofficial member is almost a bystander in his own stories. More a narrator than the main character.
ReplyDeleteHe must be difficult to write for with his very religious nature enacted as a guide for the characters to make the right choice or face the consequences of their own wrong actions.
He definitely has that pulp/radio show vibe like The Whistler, or The Mysterious Traveler. I've always wanted him to meet up on train with them and other such hosts and tell their stories.
