Constantine and Man-Thing

Someone with as much supernatural knowledge as John Constantine would likely not succumb to a fear-fueled fiery combustion in the presence of the Man-Thing, so they would make for an interesting partnership.  The only question is just wha tthe muck-encrusted swamp dweller wants from the Hellblazer.

  1. John might be of the few that could establish a two way communication with Man-Thing who can't talk. Maybe give him speech and a clear mind to some degree...??
A pairing that might not be a real team up.

  2. What if it were a Space Phantom impersonating the Man-Thing? Needing Constantine's help to prevent the latest return from Limbo of Jimmy Marks alias...The Hybrid!*

*West Virginian mother; Dire Wraith father. From the original Marvel run of ROM, SPACEKNIGHT.

  3. Considering where Constantine first appeared, this makes a lot of sense.

  4. I don't get it. He debuted roughly fourteen years after the Man-Thing.

  5. @Anon1029: yeah. But, the debut was in (THE SAGA OF) SWAMP THING #37. Thirty-nine years ago, this month!

  6. Whoa! That would make him almost 71 (in real-world years), given his in-story birth date.

  7. @Anon 10:29, what difference does it make when a character debuts? Has it made a difference for all the others Ross has worked with as well? Ross works hard on each character regardless when they debuted or how they are being paired. Please explain.

  8. @Tobor: I was reminded of a DC/Marvel pastiche at Fanfiction.net where some Nightwing, Spidey, and Capt. America wound up at a comic-con as part of an effort to resolve some interdimensional crisis. Their guide (an Accesst-ype character) told them not to get into any situations that would make them use their plot-derived abilities. As that would immediately accelerate them to their chronological ages.

But, of course, some gun-wielding crazies tried to make off with some rare back issues, worth multi-millions; various cosplayers were taken hostage; and our three heroes were forced to save the day. Consequently, Steve Roger became a nonagenarian; Dick Grayson; an octagenarian; and Pete Parker a fifth-something middle-ager!

Sadly, that fanfic was never completed. Which is too bad because the above premise was a rather fascinating one! So, if Ross ever did do a crossover where Constantine entered our world (via the Nexus of All Realities), I wonder if he'd be rendered to look like someone who had been born in 1953.

  9. @Anon10:30, THANK YOU!! That sounds like a great story. Fine premise and a nice twist to be used. Wonder how that premise would work on an android or spectre or Thor or Wonder Woman??

  11. NAH, he just traded it for Wednesday to give a mid week break. He was feeling kind of 'week' these days and needed an extra break.

  12. English translation: Ross wanted to sleep in for once? LOL!

  13. I just had another thought. What if this isn't the real Man-Thing, but Crusher Creel the Absorbing Man, instead?

  14. After seeing this cover, I realized this could’ve been done as a “live-action” cover.

  15. With the Keanu Reeves Constantine and the Syfy Channel Man-Thing?

    Both are from 2005.
