This off-beat pairing came from a suggestion by Arcadia Berger, a Patron of this Blog. I had to admit that I was not familiar with the Jules Verne-inspired hero and it was tough to find a usable image of him. I finally found a cover to an Italian paperback that would work, end here are the results. Thanks for the idea and the patronage, Arcadia!
Since we're pairing charaters from the US and Europe the next team up could be between the tamers from Monster Allergy and Man-Thning.
ReplyDeleteI never heard of this guy, either. He looks more like Andre from the Golden Age Black Hawks! Maybe next time, they could go up against Opal Luna Saturnyne (of Excalibur fame).
ReplyDeleteThis is my first exposure to this guy as well. I'd almost want to add Sailor Saturn to this adventure; maybe Saturn Girl can encounter her in a sequel.
ReplyDeleteOr, if you can somehow find another usable image of Saturnin, all three could adventure together this December, in time for Saturnalia.
oh gosh, this takes me back to my teenage reading, i had really forgotten about him !
ReplyDeletenice choice of Artwork carefully merged…
@Bob If we have Ross start using the Sailor Senshis, that leads to a slippery slope of possibilities: Sailor Moon and Moon Knight (or possibly Usagi Yojimbo), Sailor Mercury and either the Flash(es) or Quicksilver, Sailor Venus and Carson of Venus, Sailor Mars and either the Martian Manhunter, Mars Attacks, the Yip-Yip Martians, John Carter, etc...
ReplyDeleteEvery italian fiftysomething still remembers the theme of "Saturnino Farandola", the tv series in b&w of the early 70s...
ReplyDelete@Ben W: Or ANY of the Sailor Senshi teaming up with Popeye; perhaps?
ReplyDeleteFine cover. Interesting the new responses you got from it.
ReplyDeleteThis is the second solo female Legionnaire you've had in a few days. Thought about Shadow Lass and The Shadow?
ReplyDeleteHow about Pokemon and the Flintstones?
ReplyDeleteAnon 4:20 PM: with pokemon-powered devices, machines, gadgets, etc.
ReplyDeleteHow about Brock of Pokemon (anime) trying to catch (certain) Sailor scouts in pokeballs?
ReplyDeleteHow about Brock of Pokemon being hypnotized by Princess Python's new pet? Kaa (from the original "Jungle Book")!
ReplyDeleteI'd rather see Princess Python going up against the leader of the Roustabouts. Dick "Nightwing" Grayson!
ReplyDeleteI think that Shadow Lass and the Shadow would be interesting.
ReplyDelete@Ben: One of my suggestions for a 100-Issue Giant is something focusing on every Mars character: Martian Manhunter, Mars Attacks, Marvin the Martian, John Carter... so why not also include Sailor Mars? I think there are even comic-book images of Veronica Mars.
Shadow Lass and the Shadow have appeared multiple times together as teammates of Dark Matter.
ReplyDelete@Carycomic: I'd rather see Brock try to capture Shmoo in a Poke-ball.
ReplyDelete@Anon758: I think you stand a better chance of seeing Spider-Ham vs. the Condiment King.
ReplyDeleteTentative title: "What sauce goes better with BOAR'S HEAD?"
@Carycomic: wouldn't Miles Morales, Spicer-Man (from STF #4117), be a worthier opponent for CK?
ReplyDeleteBrock owning sailor scouts in poke balls is pro-pet girls. Eeeewww!
ReplyDeleteIs that a manga/anime series or some girl group from either the UK or the ROK?
ReplyDeleteThere's a comic called Why I Hate Saturn featuring a character that calls herself Queen of the Leather Astro-Girls of Saturn. I think she'd be an interesting partner for Saturn Girl as well
ReplyDeleteProviding it's an illo-capture of Saturn Girl from the Mike Grell era.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of him either but this did turn out to be a beautiful cover as it put a smile on my face. :)
ReplyDeleteHe reminds me of Andre from the Who's Who Blackhawks entry. Hint hint.
Since someone upthread mention the Flintstones, I recall an old cover where they are riding animals ala "horseback" & the Pre-Crisis Amazons on Paradise Island use to ride those large Kangas so I think Wonder Woman should team up with them at some point for a mission. Super Friends #19 (?) where the team battled the Menagerie Man for the second time had her riding a Kangaroo on the cover so I think that would be an image you could use for the offbeat team-up. :)
ReplyDeleteOlder blonde Saturn Girl & pig-tails Phantom Girl seem like they were used for the basis of the "Electro-Woman & Dyna-Girl" 70s tv series (at least appearance wise in addition to the Batman & Robin similarities) so that would make for a great future cover with four crimefighting women up against the Fright Four with a 30th century foe as the fourth member (maybe Pulsar Stargrave's Quicksand ally wants to meet Marvel's Sandman?).
ReplyDelete^ the FrightFUL Four team (Wizard, Trapster, Sandman, etc.).
ReplyDeleteSee? Even Anon247 backs me up! :-)
ReplyDeleteCarycomic, I see great minds think alike even without reading your post until after I sent mine!
