Captain Universe and Superman

Don't get me wrong, I was all for Lana Lang getting a set of super powers so that she could help out Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes - but those Insect Queen abilities where she would transform sections of her body into giant insect parts were kind of gross.  Maybe something more along the lines of what we see here would have been more palatable.

  1. VERY nice cover today, Ross; but how the Heck did you manage to turn Lana Lang into Captain Universe?!

  2. I agree with you concerning what D&D fans would call her "insectaur" modes. But, in between transformations, her black-and-gold leotard look was dynamite to my hormonal high school self.* But, yeah, she definitely would've kicked zom-butt as Capt. Universe. Because, I doubt even SG would prove immune to the molecular transmutation that's part and parcel of the Uni-power!!

    *Rowr-rowr!

  3. @Jared Mello: if memory serves, there was a Capt. Universe story where the Uni-power was bestowed on a set of identical twin sisters. One; a kick-butt private eye. The other; the loyal wife of a crusading District Attorney. And both of them, redheads.

Ross must've used one of their image captures.

  4. I agree with Jared about today's cover. As to his question, I suspect that you just took a drawing of one of the female Captains Universe and tweaked it with the red ponytail. The crazy one is when he did it with Batman. That one made me wonder if someone like Alec Holland or even Hellboy could get the Uni-Power. (For an actual story, though, I'd love to see it on Dr. Harleen Quinzel!)

As for Insect Queen, I thought her insectoid forms were kind of cool; but then again I've always been entertained by the absurdly bizarre.

  5. I fully endorse Carycomic's first post. Loved Insect Queen.

  6. Interesting combination today, Ditko, Dillin and Giella.

  7. Can you imagine if the Uni=power were ever bestowed on Madrox the Multiple Man? Or even Dupli-Kate?

  8. Ross, funny your comment about insects...that's about what Wonder Woman told Spider-Man about his look when they met in the tabloid.
As to today's cover, magic vs Superman was easy enough. Lana with uni-power might catch Batman's attention.

  9. I just had a cover idea!

How about the Watchmen meet the Watcher?
