Sub-Mariner and Captain Atom

This is another cover that required a bit of prep work on the main background image before I could add the heroes in.  Here's a look at the behind-the-scenes process:

  1. Now, this is a goodie!! Chemo has top billing. He does?? He's preventing this to be a two hero in fight. Namor wants both down? That's got to be a story ...why Namor doesn't just ignore Chemo and fly off. If Captain Atom is working for the government, he's gonna earn a lot of overtime i bet.
Some days it's like the Capt. goes against Galactus and on others, he has an identity crisis. Poor guy.

  2. Ross, how long does it take to clear the extras off the boards like you did today?

  3. Lol! The names of the participants just reminded me of an old sci-fi movie recently re-run on AMC: "Atomic Submarine." The villain turned out to be a Shuma-Gorath impersonator in a flying saucer!

  4. Love it!
Chemo had fought the Metal-Men, I wonder how Metamorpho would would do against him?

  5. Chemo was one of my favorite DC villain/monsters; I read that Metal Men vs Chemo story, and the fits the guys had in trying to stop its rampage. And I, too, have been wondering about how Metamorpho would do.

Chemo vs. Godzilla... now that would be one for the ages!

  6. Bob makes a good point. You've had two other good kaiju clashes, earlier this week. So, why not Godzilla vs. Chemo? It wouldn't have to be a Showa-era photo capture. You could use any image of Godzilla from his early 1980's Marvel run. Or even his Saturday morning Hanna-Barbera version!

  7. Either way, Gojira-san would still have a 31-appearance lead over Chemo.

  8. Never read any Charlton Captain Atom. Really liked Bates and Broderick's DC series. Hope you use him in one of your future covers, Ross

  9. I'd love to see him in a Round 2 with Gold Key's Dr. Solar, Man of the Atom. After all; it's been 3,960 issues since Round 1!

  11. Speaking of Shuma-Gorath; how about the Phantom Stranger aiding Bartman and Radioactive Man against Kang and Kodos (who've become S-G worshipers)? I know S-G is primarily a Dr. Strange foe. But, I don't think the Internet has that many image captures of Doc as an animated cartoon character. Whereas the Phantom Stranger, at least, has that one major appearance on Cartoon Network's BATMAN: TB&TB.
