Batman and Monkeyman & O'Brien

These guys never hit the big time like Batman did, but I always got a kick out of their stories.  Creator Art Adams put whatever he loved to draw into those tales - apes, beautiful women, freaky aliens, exotic locales and of course, monsters.  Each issue they appeared in was definitely a feast for the eyes.

  1. Next team up Monkeyman & O'Brien with Angel & the Ape?? or Stanley & his Monster? vs DC's Brotherhood of Evil? So many possibilities... you might even try DC's Dumb Bunny with Marvel's Beast.
You could make it into a Kong-a line.

  2. @Tobor: see STF #1729 back in Jan. 2017.

@Ross: thanks for giving us these little-known-but-undeniably intriguing characters three times in a row. :-)

  3. A feast? Sounds more like a smorgasbord!

I don't recall if you have a group of simian heroes, but if you do, Monkeyman would be a welcome addition. If not, then he and Detective Chimp would be a good start; for that matter; teaming up M&O with Detective Chimp might make for an interesting cover.

I'll second Tobor's Beast + Dumb Bunny suggestion, especially if you can find a piece of art with Hank doing a facepalm.

  4. @Bob, great idea for the Super Simians. Made to order for Detective Chimp too.

  5. @Davejonz, how about Detective Chimp and the Wasp?

@Carycomic, thanks.Fans of Kong AND Planet of the Apes? Congorilla, Grodd, etc.

@Bob G, nice to have support for Dumb Bunny's return trip.

@Ross, any chance for Beast and Wonder Woman (by herself, no group??)

  6. @Det. Tobor: Boom!Studios already published a six part mini-series with that premise back in 2017. But, I wouldn't be averse to DB teaming up with Hank McCoy. Perhaps as a kind of "turn-about is fair play" deal.

As in, the Beast has become a little too over-reliant upon the pheromones he generates (a la Mandrill). And, as a result, he winds up being mind-controlled by Gorgana (of Femforce fame) in DB's body (a la one of the Space Phantoms)!

  7. @Anon4:23, thanks. And that sounds like a fun idea since turnabout is fair play.

  8. How about an O'Brien family reunion? O'Brien (from Monkeyman & O'Brien); Chief Miles O'Brien (Star Trek); "Eel" O'Brien (Plastic Man), and any other O'Briens you can dig up!

  9. How about Brian O'Brien alias the Clock? Reportedly, the very first comic book vigilante of the Golden Age to fight crime wearing a full face mask and gloves with his fedora and business suit.

  10. Or, failing that, how about the Sentry (the Batman of Innovation Comics) meets the Sentry (the Superman of Marvel Comics)?

  11. @Anon204: close! Angel O'Day is the name of the DC protagonist. Her counterpart from Dark Horse Comics is Ann O'Brien.

  12. Red Ghost's Simian companions would be a good foe for the Super Simians.

  13. So would Grodd vs. Cal "Monkey C" Rankin (Marvel Ape version of the Mimic).

  14. @Anon1242: I'd buy that for sixty cents! :-)
