If anyone can detect the presence of an invisible, intangible spirit, it's got to be Sherlock Holmes. I've enjoyed tales where Holmes investigates cases with a supernatural element to them, so this is a story that might be cool to see play out.

Wow!!! The Peter Cushing version of Sherlock Holmes from the Hammer Films version of HOTB? If so, I salute your choice. It's extremely appropriate that the likeness a horror film icon should solve the murder of a ghost's former corporeal self.
