I think the Prince Gavyn Starman would have fit right in with the Bronze Age Avengers line up here. I used to like when they would get into cosmic situations with the likes of Mar-Vell or the Guardians of the Galaxy, and his presence would provide a gateway to more epic storylines like those.
I wonder how Starman would take to Asgard? Or Black Panther and Namor? And what kind of 'double' would the Squadron Supreme have of him?
ReplyDelete@Det. Tobor: probably a pair of dimension-shifting twins collectively known as "Gemini." One twin is flesh-and-blood while the other remains in a Phantom Zone-like pocket dimension (a la ACTION COMICS v.1/#410) on a rotating basis.
ReplyDelete@Ken Roskos and Bob Greenwade: "And, now, here are the Floating Heads to sing 'Burning Down The House.' "
@Anon816: hey, you plagiarist! That was my line (@ STF #4017).
ReplyDeleteI thought my version would have a funnier delivery. :P
ReplyDeleteDave sez,
ReplyDeleteVery cool!
Prince Gavyn has that slightly Simon Williams Wonder Man vibe going with his costume... He would fit right in! especially when he changes from Red to Blue...
Of course - it would be an interesting twist to discover that Gavyn is somehow linked to Will Peyton! (O_O)
@Dave (with or without Cathy): hence, my suggestion of a Squadron Supreme member called "Gemini." Marvel seems to have permanently dispensed with Zodiac as a super-villainous whole. And the original Gemini--the Link Brothers--have been missing for more-or-less fifty real world years!
ReplyDeleteHey, the "floating heads" don't match the cover characters.
ReplyDeleteFloating heads are other characters from the comic that are concerned about the events happening, they shouldn't match the cover characters. STF uses headshots in circles to indicate the stars of an issue, which is what you may be thinking of.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have thought of it without seeing this cover, Ross, but I think you're right -- this iteration of Starman would've fit right in with this bunch.
ReplyDelete@Tobor: I don't think this (or any other) version of Starman was ever a standard member of the Justice League, on whom the Squadron Supreme is based.
@Anon@8:16: You lost me.
PS: It just occurred to me that, the way Stargirl rides her Cosmic Staff, it might make for an interesting visual to reunite her with the Silver Surfer (they met way, way back in #345, but she was holding the staff, not riding it).
It'd certainly make for a stunning contrast, the way she rode it @ STF #4007.
ReplyDeleteOne wonders if Gavyn/Payton was nominated for Avenger Reservist membership by Spidey (post-STF #4008)?
ReplyDelete@Cary: In #2283 and well as #4007!
ReplyDelete@BG; one wonders if Electro ambushed her and Jolt (@ STF #2907) on Zemo's behalf?
ReplyDeleteSorry! That should read "...STF #2902..."
ReplyDeleteThirteenth is most definitely an unlucky position.
@Det. Tobor: I liked your idea about the Battery Chargers. Although, two members from DC might be violating Ross' preferences/policy. So, how about one of those two augmented by Static and Jolt (as E-Man's teammates)?
ReplyDelete@Bob Greenwade: The blue-skin alien Starman (Mikal Tomas) was a member of the Justice League during the James Robinson run. It was one of non-traditional line-ups after Blackest Night: led by the Dick Grayson Batman, Supergirl, Donna Troy, Jesse Quick, Jade, Congorilla, and Mikal. Major baddies were the StarHeart and Eclipso.
ReplyDeleteHis Squadron Supreme counterpart could be Puslar, an alien with different power sets (like the various Starmen) based on what combination of radiations from various pulsars he was "seeing".
@Ross, have you ever considered a team-up with all the different Starmans (i.e. costumes) verses an opponent?
ReplyDeleteI haven't just considered it...
ReplyDeleteI never realized until this team up how close Starman's uniform is to Mar-vells.
ReplyDelete@Jay: That it was non-traditional is kind of my point; that's why I specifically said "standard member," as in someone closely associated with being a regular League member. (I don't think even Blue Beetle & Booster Gold have Squadron counterparts -- nor, for that matter, Red Tornado.)
ReplyDelete@Anon2:10, yes, ..but in some cases Ross has staffed a group of his with more than 1 DC at the same time. But Static works for an extra charge.
ReplyDeleteAnon 8:16, Carycomic has not only earned some decent respect, he has also amassed half a pack of cookies. Not easy to do.
Ross, a collection of Starman with Nova?? (who else?)
Ross, would the fruit savers work...with. Yellow & Red (or orange) with
ReplyDeleteStarman, Captain Atom, Iron Man and Firestar and Flash? Or early Daredevil?
@Bobbo: you mean, "Starmen," right? ;-)
ReplyDeleteAlong similar lines to Tobor's most recent comment, someone in another forum (and another context) recently proposed a collection of orange-skinned women. Here, the group would probably start with Starfire and Ahsoka Tano. I'm not sure who'd join them, but honestly those two would be fun enough by themselves.
ReplyDeleteHow about Alan Moore's version of the Golden Age Woman In Red?
ReplyDelete@ Carycomic: No, I went with “Starmans” to individualize every Starman in a different costume.
ReplyDeletePotato/tomato. ;-)
