Doctor Who and Galactus

This is a confrontation that I would love to see. If there's one person that might be able to reason or bargain with Galactus, it's got to be The Doctor.  It would be entertaining to watch him try at least.

  1. The docor might know of an energy source that could fully satisfy Galactus. He might also suggest some other modifications like reducing his height.
    Love this concept.

  2. Wow! That’s clever! Seeing Tom Baker reason and argue with Galactus would be epic!! Gorgeous art mash up too!

  3. I've got to be honest I initially thought you had misspelled "Duodenum" (lol)! But, it turns out to have been "Devourer" just a little _too_ mashed up, grammatically. ;-)

Anyway, good luck on the negotiations, Doctor. If anyone can keep Gallifrey from being the main course on Galactus' menu, it's you.

  4. being a doctor who fan since november 1963, and loving Galactus since his first appearance in the F.F. i would love this as a poster for my wall…

  6. That Galactus art is outstanding, who is it and where is it from?

  7. It's from concept art for Marvel Legends.

  8. Re: yesterday's cover. How about Galactus vs. Green Lantern Cornelius (from that GL/POTA crossover circa five years back)?

  9. Making a crossover using an existing crossover is against my self imposed rules.

  10. Yay! I love to see Galactus (on this blog) visiting planets other than Earth. Like, what if he's the real reason for the destruction of Krypton or Romulus? Could he be a part of the history of Cybertron or Korriban (the Sith homeworld)? What if he were to make moves on Mogo?

While this encounter would be interesting with the Fourth Doctor, I'd really love to see it with the Seventh, Tenth, or Thirteenth. (I think Ten would have some way of killing Galactus up his sleeve, while Seven or Thirteen would suggest that Skaro was a better target.)

As for what's been said about this cover itself, I agree with all the compliments. This ranks among your best; I actually cannot tell that it wasn't commissioned. It's gorgeous, and worthy of a poster. It would definitely grab the eye on the newsstand, and grab enough interest to prompt a purchase.

PS: While the Doctor has visited Kirk's, Picard's, and (I think) Archer's Enterprises as well as Deep Space Nine, all in the earlier years of this blog, he still has yet to visit Voyager. I've wanted since that show was on to see the Doctor meet the Doctor. (I'm sure the sonic screwdriver could do much to upgrade the portable holoemitter!)

  11. @Bob Greenwade: see STF #2819 from 1/21/2020.

@Ross: then how about Death's Head vs multiple copies of Buzz Lightyear's "father"?

    THE ZURG SWARM!

  12. @Cary: Thanks for the find. I did check, but somehow that slipped past me.

  13. Awesome layout Ross! Being the only survivor from the universe that preceded ours, and the first entity to witness the birth of our cosmos, Galactus reveals that he was the first, real Time Lord!

  14. DC's self-proclaimed Lord of Time might have something to say about that. Abd a confrontation between him and any of the Doctors is _way_ overdue, here in the Ross-verse!

  15. @ Anon2:42 - Hmm! Very intriguing! In the meantime, Galactus' plan here is to prepare the Doctor to be the only being who will survive into the next universe. After our universe dissolves into complete entropy, of course.

  16. really like this cover a lot, Ross....
and it gave an idea for another cover pairing....
what if the Doctor (your choice of Who) met Star Trek Voyager's
holographic emergency medical program commonly called the Doctor and for good measure you could include Wesley Crusher's final incarnation as the Traveler which would seem to be Star Trek's version of the Doctor (Who) time lords.....

  19. Thanks Anon! To touch on Detective Tobor's first point: Galactus would spare Gallifrey... If this Doctor became his herald. But then, any world in any timeline would be vulnerable. And materializing the TARDIS around Big G might be tricky. Of course, the fourth Doctor might figure out a way to dump Galactus in a lost dimension somewhere.

  20. Or the 7th Doctor might hire Death's Head to do away with Galactus.

  21. Thanks Ken. But going the other eay, if you want to see the reason Galactus could have to be wary/ or scared of the Doctor look at Dr #10s the family of blood-the last 10 minutes. And given the Master's love for shrinking beings, Galactus might not realize that even beings from this universe could be his "kryptonite".
It's easy to feel so much superior that you don't look and see how capable someone else can really be.

  22. I was so impressed with this cover, I asked ChatGPT to write a story to go with it:

(The Fourth Doctor is traveling through the universe in the TARDIS when he senses a disturbance. He lands the TARDIS and steps out, only to come face-to-face with Galactus)

Fourth Doctor: Oh my. You're a rather imposing figure, aren't you?

Galactus: I am Galactus, Devourer of Worlds. And you are insignificant.

Fourth Doctor: Ah, I wouldn't be so sure of that, old bean. You see, I have a knack for getting out of sticky situations.

Galactus: You cannot stop me, Doctor. I am beyond your comprehension.

Fourth Doctor: Oh, I wouldn't say that. I've faced down some rather formidable foes in my time.

(Galactus starts to charge up his cosmic powers, ready to unleash them on the Doctor)

Fourth Doctor: Hold on there, old chap. Let's not be hasty. Perhaps we can come to some sort of agreement.

    Galactus: I do not negotiate.

Fourth Doctor: Well, maybe you should start. You see, I have a proposition for you. Instead of consuming planets, why not create new ones?

    Galactus: What do you mean?

Fourth Doctor: Well, you're clearly a being of immense power. Instead of destroying worlds, why not use that power to create new ones? Imagine a universe filled with life and wonder, instead of just empty space.

(Galactus considers the Doctor's words for a moment, before slowly lowering his hand)

Galactus: I... I had never considered such a thing before.

Fourth Doctor: Well, there's always a first time for everything, old bean. What do you say? Shall we work together to create something new and wonderful?

(Galactus nods, and the Fourth Doctor pulls out his sonic screwdriver)

Fourth Doctor: Excellent. Now, let's get to work.

(The Fourth Doctor and Galactus work together to create a new planet, filled with life and wonder. As they finish, the Doctor steps back and admires their handiwork)

    Fourth Doctor: Beautiful, isn't it?

Galactus: Indeed. I never thought I could create something so magnificent.

Fourth Doctor: You see, old chap, anything is possible when you put your mind to it.

Galactus: Thank you, Doctor. You have shown me a new way of being.

Fourth Doctor: Anytime, old chap. Now, shall we get back to our respective journeys?

    Galactus: Indeed. Farewell, Doctor.

Fourth Doctor: Farewell, Galactus. Until we meet again.

(The Fourth Doctor enters the TARDIS and disappears, leaving Galactus to ponder the new possibilities that lie ahead)

  23. Masterfully poignant, Bob. :-)

  24. Sorry, i don't think so.
He has to eat for his survival needs. How does creating a planet help his needing energy ?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Maybe the 4th Doctor was tricking him into being a cosmic anorexic! As in, Galactus is now eternally busy regurgitating, then re-creating, this planet. over and over and over again.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Anon@9:09: That's bulimia, not anorexia.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ah, I get you Detective Tobor. After a quick review, it makes sense that Galactus would have more than just an inkling of the diabolical calculations, and devastating tactics that a Time Lord might employ.

And yet, Galactus still sees himself standing far above all other living beings, so he is there to "thin the herd". He is the Devourer of Worlds. The character would lose his impact if he just cultivated unpopulated worlds for his own private dining, or only went after civilizations that had been "judged to be evil". (Ahh, a Bat-Lactus!)

But that's not his way. Galactus is one of the cornerstones of the Marvel universe, and the character's impact has suffered a few times in the hands of poor writers, or editors rushing to meet a deadline. Galactus was even duped by the Impossible Man in the FF comics years ago. That plot was a real turkey, but I digress.

So, it will take much more than just the sonic screwdriver to get out of this jam. I hope there will be a followup to this cover someday. Maybe some hapless companion of the Doctor will be maneuvered into paying the ultimate price. (Doctor Who Stinger!)

  29. Inspired by what the Other Bob did:

    Ambush Bug:
Yo, yo, yo, it's Ambush Bug, the fourth wall breaker,
Ready to spit rhymes and make your head shake-a,
I'm a meta superhero, a comic book star,
With powers that'll leave you seeing stars.

    Deadpool:
Hey, hey, hey, it's the Merc with a Mouth,
Ready to take on this battle and knock it out,
I'm the regenerating degenerate, the king of sass,
With skills that'll leave you in the past.

    Ambush Bug:
Oh please, Deadpool, you're so overplayed,
Your jokes are stale and your rhymes are decayed,
I'm the one true king of the meta scene,
My fourth wall breaks are sharper than any guillotine.

    Deadpool:
You think you're hot stuff, but you're just a bug,
I'm the one who's got the fans all snug,
I'm breaking records with my box office hits,
While you're just a forgotten relic, lost in the pits.

    Ambush Bug:
You may have the movies, but I've got the comics,
My jokes are fresh and my rhymes are atomic,
I'm the true king of the fourth wall breakers,
Your reign is over, go back to your makers.

    Deadpool:
Ha, you think you can beat me, with your buggy power,
I'll show you why they call me the Merc with a Shower,
I'm the king of the universe, the one and only,
And when it comes to rap battles, you'll always be lonely.

    Ambush Bug:
You may have won this round, but I'll be back,
I'll come back stronger, and you'll be out of whack,
I'll keep breaking the fourth wall, and making you cringe,
Ambush Bug out, till the next rap battle binge.
