I never really understood those weird helmets that the A.I.M. henchmen would wear. They looked like evil beekeepers and I can't imagine they had great peripheral vision.
Spidey and Freddy first met in STF #1358
I was glad to use an image by Stan lee's brother, Larry Lieber here. I remember seeking out his few daily panels for the Spider-Man newspaper strip. Many years back, I picked up an original strip by him:
Since Peter and Freddy both work with newspapers, they don't know what else they have in common. Spidy working with Cap jr makes a movie for him a little different. But fun.
ReplyDeleteThis cover has a real 60s feel to it. It's almost like Spidy is teamed with Superboy.
Yes
Delete@Ross: since AIM was originally the research-and-development division of Hydra, it was my understanding that those outfits started out as decontamination suits. You know; for handling hazardous materials like weapons-grade uranium, toxic chemicals, and germ warfare stuff!
ReplyDelete@Det. Tobor: Such a crossover might not have been possible back in the late 1970's. Superboy's adventures, as initially depicted back in the Forties, would obviously have occurred during the Roaring Twenties. So, by extension, the boyhood adventures of the Early Silver Age Superman would've had to occur during the Great Depression and World War II. It was only in the early 1970's that Superboy was depicted as a teenager of the 1950's. Remaining that way right up to the original COIE.
No, a Spidey/Capt. Junior crossover would've been more do-able back then. Especially given the backstory of how the Shazam Family wound up in the 1970's in the first place! As for the possible plot device that would've brought these two together in a real-world version of this comic? Frighteningly simple.
Dr. Sivana is the new Scientist Supreme of AIM!

That really would set up a great cinematic crossover! Spidey doesn't have much of a supporting cast anymore in the MCU, but there are other heroes he can count on, like Thor, and those who look up to him, like Ms Marvel. Imagine if Spidey, Thor, and Ms Marvel teamed up to combat AIM, while Freddy brought in Billy and Mary to take down Sivana. Just to make it fair, have AIM set up in Barnegat, NJ, so it's about and hour and a half out from Philly or Manhattan, as the hero flies, not close enough to Gotham, NJ for batman to get involved, and we keep the lighthouse from Ross' awesome cover!
If A.I.M. helmets make them look like "evil beekeepers," then maybe Spidey should've teamed up with Insect Queen for this. Of course, that would spoil Cary's well-thought-out tale, though I suppose one could replace Sivana with Luthor.

@Graceland: Nothing there. :-(
ReplyDeleteDid you look? It has a cover from this website with Captain Marvel Jr and Elvis.
Delete@Bob Greenwade: Insect Queen has only made four appearances, here. So Ross could bring her and Spidey together (assuming he could find compatible photo-captures of both)! Tentative gimmick? The rescue of Lana's niece Cassie and her classmate Little Normie Osborne from the clutches of Faye Gunn.
ReplyDeleteYup, I've seen it before.
ReplyDelete@Ross Seen what before?
DeleteThe youtube video with my CMJ/Elvis cover in it
ReplyDelete@Cary: I don't think Ross could find any photo-captures for Insect Queen, considering none of the live-action Lana Langs have ever taken on that identity.
ReplyDelete@Bob Greenwade: That's my own generic term for what others might call illo-captures. If the latter term does not exist, then consider me having just coined a new one!
ReplyDelete@Graceland: I saw three image captures. The link data below each one wasn't even remotely similar to the one you provided. Not your fault, I know. But, even so...didn't see anything remotely resembling Spidey and Capt. Shazam Junior, either.
ReplyDeleteHow did they find CMJ with Elvis? Did DC ever say anything about the cover?
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing the cover wasn't used in the biopix.
"Insufficient data, Will Robinson."
ReplyDeleteDidn't they perform "Owner of a Broken Heart" back in 1983?
