Sharp eyed viewers glimpsed Howard The Duck showing up with all the returning heroes in the finale of Avengers: Endgame. He wasn't at Tony Stark's funeral, so where did he go from there. Did he return to space with The Ravagers, possibly setting up an appearance in the third Guardians of the Galaxy film? Perhaps he stayed on Earth to begin some adventures there. The point is, he could really show up anywhere now, so where would you like to see him? I wouldn't mind seeing him and She-Hulk get involved in a case together at some point.
Uh-oh! Looks like Howard had the bad luck to somehow salvage the sealed metal drum that became Jim Corrigan's Golden Age resting place.
ReplyDeleteI love the expression on the Spectre's face - "Why you little-!" Just a typical Monday morning for Howard. Steve Gerber lives!
ReplyDeleteYeah, but so does Jim Aparo!!Monday just got some party time. I love this cover... but it also opens the"door" for the Spectre to team with Scooby-Doo and the gang. I can't wait for Spectre to get accidentally trapped and they pull off his "mask".
ReplyDeleteHeck, that could be the spot on the cover.
That apparently happened already, in Scooby-Doo Team-Up #13.
DeleteAn absolutely brilliant series.
Deleteeven the Spectre could do something with a fun twist...rare, but not impossible.
ReplyDeleteHoward's shown up in a few What If...? episodes, most notably with Star-Lord T'Challa and Party Thor (the latter Variant had a Vegas wedding with Darcy Lewis).
ReplyDeleteAs for where to see the 616 Howard, I could see him showing up on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law for sure (if there's a second season), or perhaps Secret Invasion or Ironheart (though they're unlikely); or in GotG3, The Marvels, or even Deadpool 3 -- though in the last case, we'd likely see a Variant, just as we would in later seasons of What If...? and Loki. He could even show up in the yet-to-be-announced next Spider-Man film.
Where would I like to see him? She-Hulk, of course, but how about the fifth Thor movie? It'd be interesting to see how he interacts with Love.
@Tobor: And who would be under the disguise, but The Brain (with Pinky close at hand, making a mess of things)? And the real Spectre is coming to express his displeasure!
Then, how about Mystery, Inc. capturing Marvel's Ghost (the industrial saboteur*)?
ReplyDelete*Who might actually be the supposedly permanently dead Gary "Firebrand" Gilbert.
This could be hilarious! I'd like to read this comic.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the Spectre made me think of a crossover of a different sort with Howard the Duck. It would be Fred from the Scooby gang trying to unmask Howard the Duck, only to discover that it was not a mask, but Howard's actual face! With Scooby and the rest of the gang watching in surprise.

Point well taken Detective Tobor. I don't know the history of DC comics very well. Regarding today's cover, the only story I know of with the Spectre that involved any humor was at the end of Kingdom Come, where Jim Corrigan sees a Spectre Platter on the menu at Planet Krypton. And it's only a serving of spinach with a scoop of cottage cheese. D'oh!
ReplyDeleteIn late 1941, DC apparently decided that the Spectre was getting too grim, so they added a new character for comic relief: Percival Popp, a bumbling wannabe detective who the Spectre would assist in secret.
DeleteSort of a supernaturalist version of Doiby Dickles, eh?
ReplyDeleteHey! That's an idea. Howard meets the Golden Age GL in...
ReplyDelete"Doiby Duckles!"
@Anon613: oh, please, no. Ross forbid!---Carycomic
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's time that DC did a "DC Meets Hanna-Barbera" special where the Spectre meets the Funky Phantom.
ReplyDelete@Bob Greenwade: Heavens to Murgatroyd!---Cary
ReplyDeleteSee, both Snagglepuss and Jonathan Muddlemore were done by Dawes Butler.
ReplyDelete@Carycomic: Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
