I'm a little surprised that we have not heard from Rick Jones in the MCU. With strong ties to The Hulk, Captain Marvel and The Avengers, he's one of Marvel's most enduring supporting characters, and it would be cool to see him find a place on the big or small screen. Maybe the lack of solo Hulk projects has been a problem, not to mention all but writing Mar-Vell out of existence in favor of skipping right to Carol Danvers.
Now there is a story that i don't remember ever being done. No kryptonite at all. Superman comes back to Earth, finds Metropolis like this. Would he do what Hal Jordan did? DC might not have known how to properly handle this. Imagine it as a movie.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Ross.
@Ross: With the MCU Hulk not having been born from the testing of a gamma-ray-emitting bomb, Rick Jones might have been deemed "superfluous" by all the script writers in general.
ReplyDelete@Det. Tobor: I suspect Rick is going to lend Kal-El some of that Destiny Force the Kree Supreme Intelligence was always after.
Carycomic, new info on Syn Six. go back to yesterday.
ReplyDeleteWe should be able to just keep clamoring for Rick to make an appearance. Maybe the third Captain Marvel film will have guest involvement from Hulk, and Rick can show up there. Or maybe he'll debut as Jessica's cousin or some such.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen the JLA film, but pesumably that likewise omitted Snapper Carr?
ReplyDelete@Simreeve: In the JLA movie, Barry Allen is basically Snapper with super-speed.
ReplyDeleteAmen Bob Greenwade! Yes, Rick Jones was some tragically unused capital in the MCU shows and movies. Man, he was a vital link in the first Thanos story, and he could hold his own against most of the bad guys' regular goons, even before he picked up some superpowers, for a time. (I start talking like a Beatnik just thinking about it.) Rick was that "James Dean" type rebel I could identify with, as someone who was fighting the system, while still seeking some kind of achievement and recognition. To be sure, he wasn't some dorky sidekick like Jimmy Olson. He had way too much insight in to what was going on. And even though he knew electronics, he wasn't an annoying geek like Wesley Crusher either.
ReplyDeleteHey, he even could have had a cushy job with Tony Stark, but I know going corporate wasn't his style. Just trying to make sense of all he had seen in the Marvel Universe must have kept him up at night. While he no longer represents the current fan demographic now, Rick was one the vital supports that the writers used well to hold things together. The Death of Captain Marvel wouldn't have been the same without him. And he made a good teen-age Hulk in that "What-If?" story too.

That sounds less like Barry and more like early-post-Crisis Wally...
Don't you mean Bart "Impulse" Allen?

That was my first thought, actually, but I decided to be generous.
Not that I didn't enjoy highly what I read of Impulee's adventures, in his own book & elsewhere, but I decided that for Justice League membership -- and for a slightly closer match to Snapper in terms of both age and relative maturity -- Wally probably would be a better fit.
As relatives go, Wally was definitely more mature (physically _and_ mentally) than Bart.
ReplyDeleteBtw: how about Rick Jones (for some reason) turning into Capt. Shazam?
