Do you prefer Man-Bat as a full on villain, conflicted bad guy, or as a straight up ally to Batman and others? I like him as basically good, but misunderstood and struggling to maintain the balance between his human and savage side. For that reason, I can see him being somewhat of a Kindred Spirit to someone like Logan.
Another great cover. I’d buy this in a heartbeat. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure who could replace Hugh Jackman as Wolverine - looks and sounds like it will be awhile before we find out; and, who will be the all new X-Men when Disney/Marvel bring them back to the big screen... should be interesting to see how they are introduced - and what storyline they will be part of...
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing Man-Bat for the first time in the Batman: From The 30's to the 70's hardcover. That and his appearances in The Batman Family, he always came across as a hero. Then he sorta became a tortured, twisted soul on Batman: The Animated Series, and a full on villain on The Batman, which seemed kinda odd.
I can just see these two teaming up against Blackwing (Silvermane's son).
ReplyDeleteMan-Bat is someone I've always wanted to see in a movie.
ReplyDeleteMan-Bat is probably the most significant of Batman's foes who has yet to receive a live-action treatment (Clayface being the only other contender that I can think of). I tend to like him best as an ally of Batman's, with the struggle you describe between his human intellect and his bestial urges.
ReplyDeleteI think Man-Bat as a sort of anti-hero is the best approach to writing the character. Great cover by the way!
ReplyDelete@Bob & Wolfhammer: In other words; sort of a leather-winged Hulk.
ReplyDeleteI always liked Man-Bat as a hero. Making him a villain seemed like lazy writing. I can understand the human character filling the pull of wanting to transform into Man-Bat much like an addict, but I'd like to think he'd still have enough control to hunt criminals and evil scientists. I could go on and on but I have to get out the door.
ReplyDeleteNice cover, Ross
Ordinaryguy2
@Carycomic: not a bad idea. And, since Blackwing canonically debuted as a Daredevil foe, Ross could make this cover a sequel to STF #3715!

Agreed.
Me again. The talk about Jackman as Wolverine gave me an idea for another "live action" team-up cover: Wolverine, and Gabriel van Helsing, probably against one version or another of Dracula.
ReplyDeleteHas Logan met Indiana Jones yet? They were running around the same time.
ReplyDeleteI also thought Punisher and the A-Team would be fun. They kind of drive the same van.
Not yet but both good suggestions.
ReplyDelete@Simreeve: wouldn't it be something if Gabriel Van Helsing was from Holland, Michigan?*
ReplyDelete*Think about it. ;-)
Man-Bat wearing a lab coat as Justice League Dark's resident scientist will NEVER not be awesome.

I agree with that comment, too.
Would you agree to a rematch between Man-Bat and the equally smock-clad Lizard?
ReplyDeleteSee STF #3080 for their first run-in.
@Anon1208: actually, their first-run-in was even further back...in STF #2606! Otherwise, I second your motion for a third clash.
ReplyDelete@Cary: OOOPS! My bad. :-(
ReplyDeleteSince I was the one who originally suggested the Man-Bat/Lizard combo in the first place, I fully support a third meeting, especially if they're both in lab coats this time.
ReplyDeleteLike, what if Dr. Connors were to recapture his humanity, only for Dr. Langstrom to start to lose his?
