In Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, it was explained that dreams were a peek into variant versions of yourself. Since we are still in what Marvel is calling The Multiverse Saga, that certainly opens up the possibility of Nightmare finally making his MCU debut. Perhaps in a third installment of Doctor Strange, or maybe as the villain in a Midnight Sons type of movie featuring Blade, Moon Knight, Ghost Rider, Elsa Bloodstone and so on.
How about Nightmare vs. DC's other Sandman--Morpheus, the King of Dreams? Where we learn that Nightmare is Morpheus's estranged son? We know, from the story of the unfortunate Orpheus, that Morpheus is not the most responsible father...hey, maybe in the STF Universe, an enraged and bitter Orpheus became Nightmare, after Mephisto or Neron offered him a deal?
ReplyDeleteloved the "In the pale blue moon light" that colored the event and the mood.
ReplyDeleteKid, you do good work too. Garycomic, take note...if Ross ever wanted a real vacation you guys might give him some help.
That pale blue coloring initially made me think that this _was_ DC's Morpheus! Nightmare usually being depicted as clad in what I like to call "Ditko-green."
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I like to think that Wesley Dodds would volunteer to be the eternal servant...if only to spy on him. Because I have no doubt that he wouldn't consider even Lord Nightmare an exception to this oft-quoted rule.
"There is no land beyond the law where tyrants rule with unshakable power. 'Tis but a dream from which the evil wake to face their fate.
Their terrifying hour!"
Next to Jack Kirby's Dr. Garret Sanford, I would love to see Wesley Dodds become the new lord of DC's dreamscape. :-)
ReplyDeleteNightmare could also make an appearance in Agatha: Coven of Chaos. And of course while we haven't actually heard anything about a third Doctor Strange film or any sort of Midnight Sons project, we also don't know much about Phase Six, other than Deadpool 3, Fantastic Four, and the two Avengers films wrapping up the Multiverse Saga (The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars); the Doc will probably be in there, and the Midnight Sons could make for a decent Disney+ show.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course we're not getting even a clue about what the third Saga is going to be like.
On another note, I was just thinking that we haven't had a cover with Wesley Dodds and Flint Marko together on the same side (I think they've been adversaries at least twice), but I also wonder if we've had anything with all three Sandmen. (You could even throw in Sandy from Rise of the Guardians.)
I was about to suggest the same concept that Kid Charlemagne did. DC's Dream entity vs Marvel's Nightmare.

Back in Greek mythology at least in a version of that that's been handed down through the centuries to us, nightmares had a personification named Phobetor who was one of Morpheus' brothers. Those two, and Phantastos who was the personification of surreal dreams, were a set of triplets.
Phobetor (aka Icelus) took the form of animals, I believe. While Morpheus took the forms of people; and Phantastos, those of inanimate objects (a la Disney, I guess).
