Ah, The Orb! What a freaky villain - made even freakier for me when I realized that he wasn't wearing a mask, that's what his head actually looks like! A pretty fitting foe for Ghost Rider, given his famous flaming skull appearance and their mutual love of motorcycles. When those two went after each other, I knew I was in for a visual treat.
now, let's have a battle between The Orb and Dr. N R Gee. :)
ReplyDeleteAh! Richie Rich’s comic book adversary..(Wish he was adapted for the 80’s cartoon..that would have been fun!)
DeleteActually, it was a helmet, he wore it to conceal his badly mutilated face from a motorcycle accident. Though I haven’t read new comics since about 2007, so it might have been retconned
ReplyDeleteMaybe later, he'll have a jam session with the Residents.
ReplyDeleteAnon719 is half-right. The first Orb did wear a hypnotic helmet to hide a face scarred even uglier than Doc Doom's. It's the 2nd Orb who has the actual eyeball-shaped head! Just google "marvunapp orb".
ReplyDeleteP.S.---now, if I were the Orb?
ReplyDelete"Cannot...resist...looking---at...fishnets. Must...surrender...unconditionally!
Bring together the Orb, Dr. N R Gee, Chairface Chippendale, and possibly Carmichael, and you have the start of a new villain team: The Headmasters!
ReplyDeleteRendering Zatanna mute makes sense as a way to weaken her, but it prompts a question; What'd he to do Ghost Rider to get him on the ground like that?
ReplyDeleteAlso, this reminds me of a request I made for a team up with John Constantine & The Scooby Gang. Thinking over deep cut Marvel stuff from the '80s and '90s, I realized that Marvel has/had two characters who could fit into the mix:
1. Top Dog - https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Top_Dog_Vol_1
Introduced into their Star Comics imprint in 1985, Top Dog was Marvel's cartoon dog character meant appeal to kids who liked comics strips succh as Snoopy. He also crossed over Heathcliff at least once, due to Star comics having a license to publish comics based on that comic strip and/or the cartoon that had been based upon it.
2. Trip Munroe - https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Hokum_%26_Hex_Vol_1
Introduced as part of Clive Barker and Marvel's Razorline Imprint, Trip was the star of a series called Hokum and Hex. The premise is, a failed/failing stand up comedian/stage magician, is granted cosmic level super powers by a demi-god from another dimension, so that he can be a champion against an incoming alien invasion. With his talents being inclined towards comedy and entertainment, his use of the powers granted to him create a horror-comedy-horror looping vibe to the story.
So, there's a pair of characters that could play off of Constantine or Scooby-Doo, either separately or a 2-vs-2 match up.
Can't wait to see the Orb team with the Monocle.
