Aquaman and Black Panther

When Marc Tyler Nobleman, comics' historian and Patron of this Blog, suggested this pairing to me I had to go back and check - I could have sworn that I had done this one already!  Alas, I had not - It must be one of the many ideas that I meant to get to but just fell through the cracks.  So, thanks for reminding me, Marc!  These two leaders definitely deserve a tale together!

  1. hey Ross, another great all Jack Kirby cover mash-up.....

  2. Thanks/Jack-El! Yup, that's a Kirby monster from that era.

  3. This one is "The Thing" (the other one) from Strange Tales # 79

  4. @Ross: My thanks to Mr. Nobleman for suggesting this team-up to you. And my compliments for being able to find and capture an image of what has to be this Thing. The most obscure of Kirby's Kreatures that I've previously never heard of!

  5. Aquaman needs another opportunity to lead the Justice League. He was the fall guy for Conway to break up the classic League then to avoid playing hypocrite and leave himself within a few issues. All we are saying is give Aquaman a chance!

  6. I kind of get the feeling that the creature seen here isn't the Kingbreaker himself, but just a minion of some unseen, behind-the-scenes anti-royalist whose identity will be revealed at some later time.

@Marc: Good call on this! There really should be meetings across the board of every Head of State in comics -- including one pairing that I find hasn't happened yet: Black Panther and Black Adam!

  7. STF Earth is bulging at the seams - Wakanda, Atlantis (two realms - still not sure how Namor's coexists with Arthur's), Latveria, Gotham City, Metropolis, the Savage Land... Maybe it's time you did us a map...

  8. Meanwhile, the monster is thinking: "Mmm! Surf n' turf!"

  9. hey Ross, maybe this Thing f(from Strange Tales #79) could join the Thing from the Fantastic Four and The Thing (from Another World) and Thing One and Thing Two (from The Cat in the Hat) from your Marvel Two-in-One #168 days.....
    what do you think Ross????

  10. I think it was hard enough finding one image of this guy!

  11. This post makes me think you need a team of 'Kings'. These two with Arthur Pendragon, Blackbolt and a few others. Maybe facing off against the Latverian Monarch, Doc Doom.

  12. @Jack-El and Ross: not even with the Mandarin's matter-rearranger ring?

    "King Ring! Do your thing!"

  13. @Davejonz: Tritonis and Poseidonis are probably vassal city-states of Namor's Atlantis.

    1. Aquaman is the KING of Atlantis in this mashup universe - Namor has only ever been a prince, lol.

  14. @Bob Greenwade: how about a Black Knight Club featuring Dane Whitman and his female counterpart from Zenescope Comics?

  15. @Ken: *groan*

    @jack-el: Don't forget the Addams Family's, er, hand-servant.

@Tim: I was also kind of thinking that some sort of UN-ish council might eventually be in order.

@Cary: Never heard of her. Sounds very cool, though.

  16. DC already had two Atlantis all by itself. Aquaman's and Lori Lemaris'. (Sure they retconned them into one at some point, but I never heard about it.)

  17. More specifically, "Grimm's Fairy Tales" and "Peyton Parks."
