Kind of an oddball match up this time out, but one that I think could have good story potential. There aren't many heroes that can with stand an onslaught by Cain Marko, but the Freak of a Thousand Forms might be one of them. I absolutely love Metamorpho, but other than Simon Stagg, he has never had much of a personal rogues gallery - maybe he's just too tough to beat.
Personally, I don't think Metamorpho needed a rogues' gallery. What super-villain could be worse than a tyrannical plutocrat whose possessive over-protectiveness of his daughter borders on closet incest!
ReplyDeleteMaybe this could be the start of building a Rogues' Gallery for Metamorpho for the STFU, Ross. Certainly, Juggernaut could give Rex a challenge. Marvel alone could provide Kingpin, Doctor Doom, Electro, MODOK, and Mojo; certainly that last one would take an interest in Rex. Then there's Shredder; or the Tick's nemesis, Shredder.
ReplyDeleteI'm also a tad surprised that Rex has never been paired with Moon Knight, given the similarity (however slight) of their origin stories.
Short story huh? Mr J can't punch, kick, grab or squeeze his target without Rex turning to gas. Now if Juggy has a ray that can freeze, shrink, or entrap then maybe he could get his bounty.
ReplyDeleteIf Metamorpho can team with Namor, then maybe we can finally have the story," Imperious Rex".
Good cover. Always liked both characters.
ReplyDelete@Det. Tobor: Maybe if Stagg was to buy a shrink ray from Brainiac via Luthor and give it to Bullseye as a reinforcement to Juggernaut.
ReplyDeleteAs in, Juggernaut softens up Rexie while driving him into Bullseye's sights?
ReplyDeleteOr, even better, Stagg hires Chemistro to work with Big J!
ReplyDeleteCorrection: The Tick nemesis I intended to cite above was The Terror.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, Bob. I think Metamorpho would more likely make Shredder cheese out of the Terror.
ReplyDeleteI mean, anyone who can be tricked into battling Big Blue by a guy once known as the Cheese Wizard...!
ReplyDeleteIn the comics, did Metamorpho ever confront either Dr Alchemy or the Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man? Both would seem obvious matches...
ReplyDelete@Simreeve: I believe Element Man and Mr. Element duked it out during that mid-1980's limited series called "The Silver Age."
ReplyDeleteNice, quirky match-up, Ross. Great premise and well designed cover.
ReplyDeleteWhat Chris Daley said. To which, I can only add what Elvis said to the Star Wars droids. "10-Q! 10-Q very much!"
ReplyDelete@Ross: How about a sequel where Juggernaut turns against the guy who hired him? That way, you could call it..."Cain's Mutiny!"
