This is a match up that I am surprised we did not see for real back when Marvel had the rights to publish Godzilla comics. I definitely would have been down for a Herb Trimpe-illustrated throwdown between these two behemoths. I have always loved the designs of both of these monsters and it would be great to see them clash.
yes i agree that this one seems like a natural that should have happened long before now on you amazing blog.... go figure....
ReplyDeleteyour choice of images is as seamless as always....
after doing a quick check it was discovered that another team up has yet to occur here....
the impossible man (Marvel) and Hanna-Barbera/DC's The Impossible s....
what do you think, Ross????
Possible.

ReplyDeleteGodzilla, the Shogun Warriors, Red Ronin, etc... fantastic spinner rack gold from my childhood!
ReplyDeleteHoly kaiju throwdown, Batman! I think various visitors have mentioned wanting to see this at various times in the past (I was one, but definitely not the first), and it's great to see. All that's lacking is an introduction by Michael Buffer.
ReplyDeleteAnd, of course, I'd be quite thrilled to see either of these two at the business end of the Inferior Five (which I've mentioned before, I know).
Or hey, how about the Japanese Ultraman versus DC's Ultraman?
On the more general topic of Fin Fang Foom, the big guy was hinted at in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and I was only slightly disappointed that there wasn't at least a more direct reference. Here's hoping he does actually show up, or at least get a name drop, in a not-too-distant Marvel project.
I'm hoping to see a Marvel/IDW crossover between these two!
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime? Thank you, Ross, for making my request--among countless others--come true regarding this depiction. :-)
Yet another "Shut up and take my money" moment.
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea! Would make for an interesting comic or movie!
ReplyDeleteGodzilla did get to fight Devil Dinosaur at least. Because Marvel likes having heroes fight each other before teaming up against the real villain.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I like to call "the Mistaken Identity Slugfest Trope."
ReplyDelete@Cary: Or M.I.S.T., for short.
ReplyDelete@Ross: I still find it hard to see Godzilla on this blog without hoping to see Batman, for a recreation of The Ultimate Showdown for Ultimate Destiny. Probably the main thing making it tough would be finding suitable images of Shaquille O'Neil and Aaron Carter.
Batman vs. Godzilla?! That might be even whackier than I-5 vs. Galactus! Which is why I'll 2nd Mr. Greenwade's motion.
ReplyDelete@Cary: Check this out.
ReplyDeleteThat shot of sunbathing Burt "Warded" me off. :-(
ReplyDeleteMe, too! :-O
