I am always happy to use the unique and moody art of Matt Wagner on this blog. I remember first seeing his artwork on a Demon mini-series in the 80's, and I have been a fan ever since. Even back when original art prices were more reasonable, I was never able to afford a cover or splash page by him, but I was able to pick up this preliminary sketch that he did for one of my favorite Green Arrow covers:
Inspired, Ross. Great layout and fantastic color scheme.
ReplyDeleteThese two would be brilliant in a mini. I hope Matt sees this and pitches it to the powers that be.
And, love the prelim. He did so many really terrific covers for this series. This is definitely a top 5 one.
One word: WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat costume of Manhunter's a quite deceptive. It looks silly, but every part (except maybe the shoulder flares) has a purpose, and the guy's basically a walking arsenal. It's small wonder you've teamed him with the Punisher not once but twice. I don't think it'll be time for a third such event any time this year, but I do wonder how well he'd get on with Captain America.
ReplyDeleteAlso, as awesome as that GA cover is, it puts me in mind of this classic illo from an early edition of the Tunnels & Trolls RPG.
And now, from the Department of Why Didn't I Think of This Before: Hong Kong Phooey and the Inferior 5.
I can just picture the sequel, now. This Grendel is teaming up with Deadpool against Venom. With Deadpool quipping: "I told you he wouldn't like the color-scheme infringement!"
ReplyDeleteMinor detour while I ask a potentially spoiling question for those (like me) who've seen the first four episodes of "Naomi." Is Earth 29 supposed to be the Arrowverse equivalent of pre-Flashpoint Earth-51?
ReplyDeleteForget I asked. Mercifully, "Naomi" was not renewed for a second season.
