Marvel Boy and Superboy

I'm looking forward to the return of Superman and Lois next week.  At least we will have a decent TV version of the Man of Steel while Warner Bros. movie decision decides what they want to do with the character.  Most fans seem to simply want a Henry Cavill sequel film, but that doesn't seem in the cards.  We do have a variant Supergirl coming up in The Flash (Superman's daughter?) and two separate movies in development featuring African American versions of Superman (one a period piece and one featuring Val-Zod).  There are some rumors of a Cavill Superman showing up in either Black Adam or Shazam: Fury of the Gods, but I have my doubts that either will come to pass.

  1. Hope to see the sequel cover soon - Superman and Quasar.

  2. Now this takes me back! I don't know who young Clark was meeting in the original - but this issue could slip smoothly into that Silver Age run.

  3. Don't drive yourself crazy, Ross. Just resign yourself to helplessly waiting for the trailers like the rest of us. ;-)

With regard to this morning's cover? Interesting you should use the Golden Age Marvel Boy! Robert Grayson saving the lives of his Uncle John and Aunt Mary might explain why the Golden Age Robin only appears once in the Ross-verse!*

    *See STF #1744.

  4. Superboy has met manyo "very self assured characters" from time to time. Working in the family hardware store, he could always give them enough rope. And let's not forget how much help Krypto could be.

  5. *Superboy has met many "very self assured characters" was what I keyed in.

  6. Incorrect, Cary - he also appeared in STF #195, STF #1509 and STF #2404.

  7. Marvel Boy is such an obscure character that I didn't even remember him appearing previously on this blog until I checked the tag. It's been at least twice, not counting his appearances with the rest of the Agents of Atlas. With any luck we'll be seeing that group pulled together in the MCU at some point.

This also makes me wonder what things would look like if Access were to Amalgamate these two.

As for Superman in the movies, I say just give up. It's become increasingly clear that DC's movies are hopeless muddled. I don't think they even know what they want to do, let alone what they're doing. Henry's a decent Superman, but DC's indecision about him and so many other things (Blue Beetle movie, Ben Affleck's Batman) and bad decisions in other areas (especially keeping She Who Must Not Be Named in the Aquaman sequel) is ruining whatever's good there.

  8. Slight correction, Ross: STF #195 features pre-COIE Batman. So, technically, that's only 3 appearances. Not 4!

  9. Understandable, though, given the similarity in costume design. :-)

  10. @Carycomic: Ross was half-right. He was actually referring to "The Brave and The Bold" Lost Issue #195.

  11. Like I said: understandable mistake.
