It will be interesting to see how Atom Smasher (Albert Rothstein's super hero identity after his time as Nuklon) will be depicted in live action when Black Adam hits the theaters. Noah Centino will be playing the part, and it looks as though the hero will be another in the long line of de-gingered comic book character adaptations. Hopefully, the costume will be comics accurate - although with a full face mask, I have my doubts about that, as Hollywood is generally not a fan of those either. Still, a great performance will override any aesthetic details, so I will remain cautiously optimistic.
Great cover!
ReplyDeleteHa!
De-gingered and probably de-mohawked!
Yet another great cover. Two of my favorite heroes! Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes! Norton G. Fester...a.k.a. Meteor Man alias the Looter. I remember the reprint of his origin story well. And I often wondered what might have happened had he ever encountered the same type of meteorite that allowed Gim Allon (of Silver Age 30th century Earth) to become Colossal Boy of the LSH. Now--thanks to you, Ross--we know.
ReplyDeleteI've also wondered why Marvel never resolved that story arc where Fester was looting suspiciously leathery "meteorites" from SHIELD. If they lacked a good idea for such a resolution, then, they could have one now. That is; if they're smart enough to take advantage of Disney/Fox merger.
Hint-hint! "Can you say 'xenomorph?' "
ReplyDeleteAh, good ol' Bill Foster! I know a good number of fans are hoping to see Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer de-aged for an action-filled flashback for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and I'd love to add Laurence Fishburne to that. I don't think he'd ever wear an outfit like the one shown here, but a blue-and-white Pym-designed containment suit with the general aesthetic would be a fantastic sight.
ReplyDeleteCarycomic- Fester did, in fact, gain the power to grow in Peter Parker the Spectacular Spider-Man #41, which this cover was adapted from.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they will go with old style costume with mohawk.
ReplyDeleteHollywood knows gingers are not as radical as other groups so they are easily marginalized.
Does that Giant Man costume predate Tyroc?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous - Tyroc, who first appeared in Superbiy & LoSH # 216 (April, 1976) predates Giant Man's costume, which he first wore in Marvel 2 in 1 # 55 (Sept. 1979)
ReplyDelete@Alaric: I bet Duplicate Boy could grow taller. ;-)
ReplyDelete@Anonymous and Alaric: I bet Fester would cause twice as much havoc if he ever encountered the same kind of meteorite that gave Substitute Hero Fire Lad his pyrokinetic dragon-breath!
