Continued from yesterday's cover, we see that Kamandi's visit has taken quite a dramatic turn. Will we see this line-up of X-Men when they finally make their MCU debut? I'm not sure that Marvel is interested in doing a First Class type movie, but I know I would love to see it. We'll see what the status of mutants is after Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is released, I guess.
Time Cyclone? Tis an ill wind that blows this way. KAMANDI vs Beast? That might be interesting.
ReplyDeleteSurely you mean "Kontinued from yesterday's kover.."? Given the Kirby connection (sorry, konnection) it seems fitting.
ReplyDeleteIf this XMen lineup was the basis of an MCU movie, expect changes to the races of the characters to make them more diverse: Hispanic Cyclops, Asian gay Iceman, Muslim Beast, biracial Angel, Native American Jean Grey, black Professor X, etc.
ReplyDeleteI had understood that Eternals was supposed to open up something for MCU mutants, but if there was anything it has yet to be explained (that being my only disappointment with the movie). We may yet get something in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness*, but with no casting announcement for any mutants (other than Deadpool and his gang), I doubt it'll be much more than a surprise cameo or some similar Easter egg.
ReplyDelete@Anon@9:41: I doubt it'll be taken that far, but I also wouldn't be surprised if they went with at least gay Iceman and maybe black Cyclops or Beast. The second wave of Fox' X-Men films did sort of address the issue, with a bit of light-hearted unity among its Blue people.
*I double-checked it. It's in, not and.
@Bob Greenwade: why wouldn't Marvel Films take it that far? Look at how Orphan Annie is no longer a Caucasian redhead!
ReplyDeleteOn the brighter side? At least they're bringing back Richard Molina as Dr. Octopus in "Spider-Man: Far From Home" (from the snippet I just saw on TV).
Re: today's cover. As Kamandi was riding a giant grasshopper, yesterday, maybe they think he's working for The Locust?
ReplyDeleteIf nothing else, you could use that possibility to have August Hopper make his official (and, arguably, long-overdue) debut in the Rossverse!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Cal Rankin would be able to mimic Ben Boxer's super-power?
ReplyDelete@Anon@11:52: You're just finding this out? That's old news. Jamie Foxx is also back as Electro, as apparently are Hayden Christiansen as Sandman, Willem Defoe as Green Goblin, and Rhys Ifans as the Lizard. There's also been some leaked photos and footage showing Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield alongside Tom Holland.
ReplyDeleteMCU loves to be woke. I could see both Professor X and Magneto reimagined as African Americans. Magneto's background could change from WWII internment camps to something during the Civil Rights Movement. Denzel could play Magneto with Forest Whitaker as Professor X.
ReplyDelete@Bob Greenwade: I never believe any casting is set in concrete until the first previews finally get shown. And, even then, some of the previews shown usually wind up on the cutting room floor prior to national release! Technically making them false advertising.
ReplyDeleteask erick about Back to the Future if in doubt.
ReplyDelete@Bob Greenwade: Is Hayden Christiansen a new version of Sandman verses Thomas Hayden Church’s version?
ReplyDelete@Bobbo: No, it's Thomas as Thomas' Sandman. I misspoke. Thanks for catching me on that.
ReplyDelete@Anon902: Who's Erick?
ReplyDeletehey Carycomic, Eric Stoltz (born September 30, 1961) the actor who was originally cast as the role of Marty McFly when production of Back to the Future began on November, 1984.
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah! I remember that bit of trivia being brought up in a b.t.s. segment from one of the DVD compilations of FRINGE.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'll always think he was much more credible in dramas like MASK (co-starring Cher and Laura Dern).
Dear Ross: has Kamandi ever appeared on on the official Planet of the Apes in your depictions?
