The announced Buzz Lightyear solo movie, Lightyear, sounds like an interesting project. Rather than being a story featuring the Tim Allen-voiced Buzz that we know from the great Toy Story series, the movie will tell the origin tale of the "real life" Buzz that the toy was later based upon. Chris Evans will lend his voice to the lead role, and it should be a fun outer space adventure. I have only seen one piece of concept art but it looked cool, a Pixar-style Buzz, but clearly not a toy.
I remember they did that Buzz Lightyear of Star Command movie and later TV series that was all about his exciting space adventures. They got Tim Allen to voice Buzz for the movie which was technically the pilot for the series but replaced him with Patrick Warburton for the series itself. They even had Warburton replace Allen's lines when the movie/pilot went direct to TV.
ReplyDeleteTim Allen did a much better job voicing the character in comparison to Warburton, as Warburton didn't showcase the emotion Allen did during some scenes, so I wonder how Evans will stack up.
Dave sez,
ReplyDeleteI think I caught the Buzz Lightyear show on a hit and miss - I'd see one here and there...
Hopefully Lightyear will not take itself too seriously and be FUN and LIGHT-hearted...
They're not really toys, Buzz. They're just drawn that way. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI’d personally like to see a crossover between Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and Guardians of the Galaxy, mostly because I think it’d be hilarious to watch.
ReplyDeleteWhy not Jason of Star Command?

ReplyDeleteNot really a fan of these toys. But your title gave an inspiration: Cover split in half. Huntress tied - a sawmill blade coming at her, Hawkeye to her aid. Other half of cover, Supergirl in an equally deadly trap with Captain Marvel flying thru the ceiling to her.
ReplyDeleteTitle: "Cry SIS"!
I'd rather see Buzz team with the actual Micronauts toys, which the Marvel Micronauts resembled very little (just Acroyear).
ReplyDeleteThis is the first I've heard of the movie, even though it was announced last December, so I went to take a look. It sounds like an awesome project. I'll be looking for it next year, as well as whatever early reviews it gets.
ReplyDeleteHere's an idea: team up Buzz with Detective Chimp, for "Space Case"!
As for the Micronauts, I'm not super familiar with them, but the guy with the sword caught my eye well enough to look him up: Acroyear. I think his energy sword would look interesting next to the Darksaber, especially if it's in Bo-Katan's hands.
On a completely unrelated note, I've been binging Naruto on Netflix, and with the title character's favorite tactic of creating an army of "Shadow Clones," I think it might be fun to have a cover with him fighting Jamie Madrox. Also, given his refusal to ever give up and his tendency to make inspirational speeches, he might be good to put up against powerhouses like Darkseid or Darth Sidious.
Rock Lee, a recurring character on the same show, would be a good match with Karate Kid, or just about any speedster character. There are some other interesting potential match-ups as well (like Gaara of the Desert with Marvel's Sandman, or Orochimaru and Voldemort).
@Tobor: A simpler version of that would be to just team up Supergirl and Hawkeye, with a shared mission.
A related idea* would be a late-December cover featuring Captain Marvel and Star Sapphire, for "A Christmas Carol"!**
*Pun not intended, but appreciated. **Pun totally intended.
I still keep hoping that Disney will buy out Hasbro someday and make a movie like this... though with Buzz teaming up with GI Joe, My Little Pony, Transformers, ROM Spaceknight, and MASK as well. And yes I know IDW did a major Hasbro Universe crossover series, I want that but with Buzz and the Toy Story gang TOO (and maybe a cameo from Doc McStuffins thrown in)
ReplyDelete@Big Mike: Hey, I'd love to see some Autobots land on the world of Cars.
ReplyDelete@Bob Greenwade: Yes! The battle for the Mater-Ix of Leadership!

ReplyDeleteDeck the (Carter) Halls ........ With boughs of Harley (Quinn) ..... this could go on for a while. 8-D
@Bob, I am missing something. how would this ....[@Tobor: A simpler version of that would be to just team up Supergirl and Hawkeye, with a shared mission.] get Hawkeye &
ReplyDeleteCapt Marvel to "Cry :Sis!" ?
@Tobor and Bob: why not "split" the difference? Have the Danvers sisters rescued by the android multi-tasker who shares the same alias as Carol!
ReplyDeleteThat’s awful anon, so why don’t you “split”! ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnon, the idea is to have one sibling yelling for the other...thereby making the title
ReplyDelete"CRY SIS!(crisis)

I'd like to see him given a job (but not a ring) by the Guardians of the Universe

On a Quest ?
@Tobor: Clint and Kara, upon finding their shared predicament, could simply cry it out in unison. "Oh, no! SIS!"
ReplyDeleteBG, thank yee. works for me.

A further thought occurs to me about the Danvers sisters _ Linda's various incarnations have almost always become very good friends of their 'Batgirl' contemporaries (the main exception being when Cassandra Cain was Batgirl... although she did, albeit only briefly, date Superboy...). Maybe Carol likewise has a good friend who could then team up with [a] Batgirl while Carol & Linda were working together? Having this be Bobbi 'Mockingbird' Barton might work nicely, especially with her sister-in-law being Helena 'Huntress' Bertinelli who -- in DC canon, pre-'Flashpoint' -- herself used [albeit only briefly] the 'Batgirl' identity and who is already in this storyline.
ReplyDeleteAnd talking of the various 'Batgirls', wouldn't Stephanie 'Spoiler'/'Batgirl' Brown probably get on very well with Squirrel Girl? We cold call them, either just as that duo or as part of a larger team of suitable characters, 'The Optimists' [strike](and send them to help Optimus Prime? ;) )[/strike]
Re my post immediately above: Ross, please consider the Steph/S.G. 'Optimists' pairing a definite request for a future cover.
ReplyDelete(If they've already met then I couldn't find that encounter via this site's index of links.)
Possibly the Robin [Tim Drake]/Jubilee romance, which IIRC has featured on this site (with a fight between Spoiler & Jubilee over Robin), might also be a part of this storyline?
@Isaac and Tobor: Then, just revise the title to read...
ReplyDelete"Cry-Sis MANagement!"
by George I think they've all got it
ReplyDeleteHopefully, they have a vaccine for it. ;-)
