It looks like the Black Widow solo film has finally settled on an a release date after a year's worth of delays, as publicity has begun to ramp up for it once more. Let's hope it is going to be worth the wait - I for one can't wait to see The Taskmaster in action.
I am always happy to feature the work of the great Mike Wieringo on this blog. He was gone far too soon. I was lucky enough to pick up a page by him several years back. I love how no dialog or captions are needed to get the gag:
ReplyDeleteMike's work is brilliant if he didn't follow a script by someone else. How many jokes within jokes can you catch. Sue getting Ben was priceless. If the guy looked out his window and saw Ben, he would have been completely confused.
If Sue and Ben had been sister and brother, Yancy Street would never have had a chance.
It took me a couple of re-reads to get the joke. But, it's true! Mr. Wieringo was capable of highly amusing panels sans word balloons.
ReplyDeleteAs for today's cover-sim? I can't imagine what would necessitate Wildcat and BW working together. Unless, of course, those two guys in the silvery masks are working for the Russian Maggia!*
* "Maggia" was the term coined by Marvel back when there was officially no such thing as a crime syndicate composed of five Italian-American families.
Somehow I thought these two had worked together before, but I checked and I was thinking of the Golden Age Black Cat. Leaving Wildcat as a Golden Age hero with a Silver Age career, though, these two do seem like a good pairing in general, worth revisiting from time to time. (Who knows, but that Nat discovers that Ted is her birth father?)
ReplyDelete@Cary: Re the cover-sim, I imagine the case is primarily Nat's, and the fight just got into Ted's gym and hurt someone. She looks quite businesslike here, while he just looks ticked off.
Great team-up. They would work well together. Reminds me of the CAT WOMAN / WILDCAT pairing from her mini-series.
ReplyDeleteThey probably have the same tailor and met on way there when scene occurred.
ReplyDeleteFrom the grins on those masks, it's more likely some kind of initiation hit for the street gang known as the Jokerz.
ReplyDeleteNow, THAT is a confrontation I'd love to see depicted, here! The Jokerz vs. the Yancy Streeters.
