Dreadstar and Hercules

If Marvel decides to bring Hercules into the MCU, they need look no further than Bob Layton's two Hercules: Prince of Power mini series from 1982 and 1984.  Like Thor: Ragnarok, they took a hero with roots in the mythology and transplanted him into a comedic science-fiction based adventure, with impressive results.  The only trick will be finding another actor that has the comic acting chops to match his larger than life physique!

  2. I'd suggest Kevin Sorbo. But, having been religiously born again, he suddenly has an aversion to any literature not 100% Christian.

  3. Well, Jason Momoa and Dwayne Johnson are otherwise occupied, Vin Diesel and Dave Bautista already have MCU roles, and Arnold S. is a bit old. Tom Welling would be great, but I'm pretty sure he'd resist being put into another superhero project. But I'm sure there's some actor out there who would fit just right: tall, burly, 30s to early 40s, Caucasian (since Herc is Greek).

I'm not familiar with Darkstar, so I'll have to go look him up. Even so, it might be interesting to put him in a group with other "Star" heroes: Dawnstar, Firestar, Northstar, etc. They could call themselves the Constellation! (And they'd certainly have plenty of Star power!)

  4. I could swear that was a TIE fighter in the background!

Could Darth Sidious have mind-tricked Starfox into seducing Vixen for the Tantu Totem? Perhaps to gain control of the nihilistic Charon of Otherspace? So that he could use them, in turn, to gain access to the Infinity Horn?

  5. @Bob G: That's Dreadstar, dude! Dawnstar is a Russian mutant superheroine who can access the Darkstuff Dimension (as I prefer to call it) a la Cloak and the Shroud.

  6. This is an epic team-up! Those two Hercules mini-series you mentioned to be some of my all-time favorites. Very fun read!

  7. Anon - Dawnstar is a member of the Legion of Super Heroes, native american with wings. Darkstar is indeed the Russian mutant you mentioned.

I love the three Dreadstar first Graphic novels - Metamorphisis Odyssesy, the Price and Dreadstar (Marvel Graphic Novel # 3). The ongoing series was okay, but nowhere near as good. I think thses are better that all of Starlin's Warlock / Thanos work...

  8. Everybody is seeing stars. Reminds me of an old joke.

"I went to a boxing match the other night. And a football game broke out!"

  9. Anon@12:16: Darkstar, not Dawnstar, is what I said when I meant to reference Dreadstar. Harry got them all sorted out.

  10. If anyone drew characters in more 'anatomically uncomfortable' poses than Gil Kane it was/is Jim Starlin

  11. Just so long as they weren't anatomically incorrect. ;-)

  12. Layton's Hercules was one of my favorite comics at time. Hercules earned the title "Prince of Power".
