Here are a couple of characters that would definitely be at odds if they ever crossed paths. The Collector has plenty of exotic weapons in his possession already, while Larfleeze is an entire Lantern Corps unto himself. There would be no shortage of fireworks!
Thank you to Thrawn7, a Patron of this Blog, for suggesting this match up!
According to the Wold Newton Universe website, there was once a proto-Fu Manchu villain known as...Orange Lantern.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what would happen if you did a prequel to this cover involving Fu Manchu vs. the Golden Age GL? ;-)
I really like this cover, both the idea and the execution.
ReplyDeleteOn the Krypton series (I don't know if this is also true in the comics), Brainiac was sometimes referred to as "the Collector." I wonder if that could be managed into a meetup with this Collector.
Reminds me of the classic Jack Benny routine about his legendary cheapness.
ReplyDeleteMugger: Your money or your life!
Jack Benny thinks
Mugger: Well? Your money or your life!
Jack Benny: I'm thinking about it, I'm thinking about it!
@Anon: Jack's classic response was actually, "I'm thinking it over!" (The line has been copied a few times.)
ReplyDeleteIf I recall the episode(s) correctly, the robber's line ended one episode and the joke was continued the next week (I also believe he had also borrowed an Oscar from one of his neighbors and recovering it became the main plot of the second episode).
DeleteOrange hue glad to see me?
ReplyDeleteThat's a you of a different color.
Hue light up my life.
That's hue all over.
If the green ring was defenseless against yellow
is the orange ring defenseless against generosity?
Hue know it's true.
@Cary: I'd rather see the Yellow Claw go up against GL Hal Jordan. Simply for the reason cited above by Horace Feathers.
ReplyDelete@Bob Greenwade: I don't know if Ross would let Brainiac in here. He is a glorified robot, you know!
@Anonymous: Lol! You do mean Brainiac. Right?
ReplyDeletebeep boop beep
ReplyDeleteWhat would Larfleeze vs. Scrooge McDuck look like?
ReplyDeleteScrooge would probably redirect Larfleeze to his toilet paper factory. He'd tell him how important that paper is since it flies off the shelves because of the great demand for it.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoyed this version of the Collector. One of the more subtle villains who was always lurking in the background. Not driven by rage, or some sort of power trip, except that as an Elder of the Universe, he saw himself above other people. Always catching the heroes off guard, seeing them only as insects, or rare knickknacks for his trophy room. The Cosmos' first geek? Larfleeze, on the other hand, made Dr. Smith look like Sir Galahad. He gives scroungers a bad name.
ReplyDeleteNahhhh! Darth Avarice could butt-whup them both. With one lightsaber-wielding hand tied behind his back!
ReplyDeleteStar Wars Fanon characters don't count!
ReplyDeleteYes, they do. Sith Lords can certainly count to two!
