I got a kick out of the four Animal Man shorts that ran on the Cartoon network a few years back. The voice of Buddy Baker seemed familiar to me, and now I know why - it was provided by none other than Weird Al Yankovic! Now, that's inspired casting, almost as good as John Mulaney as Spider-Ham!
is this trio the "new" Animal-Maniacs????
ReplyDeleteDC Nation Shorts was a 'bold' attempt by DC Comics (with Cartoon Network in 2012) to reach a more childlike audience.
ReplyDeleteI particularly liked the Animal-Man, Doom Patrol, Metal-Men, and Creature Commandos shorts. He even sympathized with the Aardman Animations version of DC's World's Funnest. The rest made the DC characters too uncharacteristic and seemed like a poor attempt to do anything that pleased the children. It seemed to be more than they 'played against the wall to see what stuck to it'. If I'm not mistaken, that's where the infamous - but undeniably successful - version of Teen Titans Go! started as a test.
I prefer DC Showcase shorts, with a more mature tone and good animations. Did you see the recent Sgt. Rock, Death, Phantom Stranger, and Adam Strange?
And, as will be inevitable in a comment today: ... With his cybernetic helmet, is Ant-Man able to control Atom Ant? ... lol
Before any other 'tinny' request like that, remember that Atom Ant already team-up with The Atom, Wasp, Shrinking Violet, and Arcturus Ran in "Microforce" issue #1690.
I haven't seen the newest DC shorts, I'll have to check them out, I like all those characters a lot.
ReplyDeleteWeird Al?! Good old Weird Al! Inspired casting, indeed.
ReplyDeleteEven better than the voice of Jay Leno for the Crimson Chin!!
And after Spider-Ham met Miss Piggy, you could only MARVEL at how the swine flew.
ReplyDeleteOf course that was no surprise. She was a real animal, man.
If the Atom and Ant-Man merged would you get Atom Ant? He'd be no Shrinking Violet!
ReplyDelete@Horsefeathers: As Atom Ant's ex-sparring partner, Mighty Mouse, might say... "Ah! The power of cheesy lines!"
ReplyDeleteI almost hate to tell you this, Anon. But, that wasn't Atom Ant. It was Underdog!
ReplyDelete:P
Anon, Ham and cheese? Sounds delish.
ReplyDeleteof course you'd have to put them in a pickle.
ReplyDelete@Horsefeathers: Only Access would know. That might even make for an interesting cover!
ReplyDeleteAnother interesting possibility for Access. A few of us have been wanting to see Captain America and Wonder Woman, who are married in the STF-verse (depending on when the story takes place), have a daughter who grows up to be American Maid (from the animated The Tick). AM could alternately be who shows up when Access merges the couple.
American Maid could also team up with Iron Beetle... because, well, why not? (I just like Iron Beetle. So shoot me.)
There may be other cases where Access could combine a character each from Marvel and DC to get a third-party character; I can't think of any right offhand.
I like Bob's suggestion. That way, Ros could depict Diana in a maternity ward bed, while Cap holds the newborn infant. And the title could be...
ReplyDelete"My Baby Is American Maid!"
With all due apologies to the Oak Ridge Boys.
@Bob G: Captain Atom Ant? The Invisible Wonder Woman? Swamp Thing-Thing? Guardians of the Captain Universe? Mogo & Ego = Moe-Go?
ReplyDeleteHow about Spider-Ham and Captain Carrot and his Amazing Zoo Crew
ReplyDeleteScott: They Met in STF #1420
ReplyDeleteRegarding the Sailor Moon/Punisher team-up (with a popular anime character) two days ago: maybe a cover where Ash Ketchum's pikachu manages to use his powers to microwave food, giving Ash some more pokemon thieves beside Team Rocket: Fred and Barney (The Flintstones) who want to make pikachu into a microwave oven; they could be called Team Bedrock-et! XD!
ReplyDeleteOr, more simply, Martian Manhunter and Sailor Mars versus the Martians Who Always Attack-ack-ack!
ReplyDeleteWhy not? Ross could make it a sequel to STF #411!
ReplyDeleteAnything with Spider-Ham is a sure win with me!
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking about suggesting a team up with Freelance Detectives Sam & Max
ok, Ross..the time has come:
ReplyDeleteSpider-Ham vs Egg-fu!
Grant him his request, Ross, please. He's practically "bacon" for it!
ReplyDeleteI could definitely dig Tobor's suggestion if both characters are colored green.
ReplyDeleteSomehow I suspect this is really Booster Gold, dressed up in one of Animal Man's discarded costumes for some reason. You can bet there will be a TV news crew, summoned by him, covering whatever caper this team tackles!
ReplyDeleteWould that green be from the "Rainbow Connection"?

Psst, Doc. I don't wanna be a stinker butttt to interact with them Ack-ack Martians
why not use Bill the Cat! Ack!
@Jack-el: I couldn't believe how Dotty that question is. 8}
ReplyDelete...yeah, i guess you could just say that i went "Wakko"!!!!
ReplyDeletealso to the gathering of Martians i would add Marvin and also Uncle Martin, cuz he's my favorite Martian.....
@ High/Horse Feathers: Sounds more like that Kryptonian singer...
ReplyDeleteBill E. Jor-el.
"Red suns going nova can send your planet out of whack-ack-ack-ack!"
@Highfeathers: Martian Manhunter has dealt with Mars Attacks already, but a Mars Attacks Bloom County cover would be priceless if Bill can communicate with those Martians.
ReplyDeleteI second the Jonn Jonzz/Sailor Mars motion.
ReplyDeleteRegarding J'Onn J'Onzz with Sailor Mars: that would be doubly interesting, considering Sailor Mars' main element is fire. But if they're battling a demonic foe, Rei does have her exorcism ability to fall back on!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteok, Ross..the time has come:
Spider-Ham vs Egg-fu!
is that egg-fu young? with green food color? with a side order of bacon with cheese?
Put it on a flying saucer, hold the cat hair. deliver it to Bloom County. (table 3)
and you've been doing this for over ten years? not a common way of doing things.
A thought:
ReplyDeleteIf May Parker was given Ray Palmer's technology, would she then become Atom Aunt?
Perhaps. Or, she might become a singer stage-named Lady Double A.
ReplyDeleteOr, failing that, how about a country-western artist called "Auntie Bellum?"
ReplyDeleteWith a mad scientist niece called "Sarah Bellum!"
@Anonymous: Nice save.
ReplyDeletethat's ok. he's got a head for it. Didn't you see his aunt was in Young Frankenstein?
ReplyDeleteAbby Normal.
@Horace Feathers: you go in for that brainy humor, I see.
