I thought that it was hilarious when Ed Asner voiced the animated version of Granny Goodness, Genius casting. Still, who could play her in live action, if the New Gods movie ever gets made? I've heard names like Oprah Winfrey and Kathy Bates mentioned, and I can see both. For me, I think that Margo Martindale would be perfect in the role.
Thank you to Tom Zilla, a Patron of this Blog, for suggesting a Big Barda/She-Hulk adventure...
Yes, Margo Martindale. Fantastic actress. But, I wouldn't mind Glenn Close, Helen Mirren or Ann Dowd either.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on the casting of Ed Asner, and I do think that Kathy Bates would be fantastic. (I'm not familiar with Margo Martindale, so I won't chime in on that.) Maybe Louise Fletcher.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Tom as far as wanting to see Shulkie and Barda together, though I rather would like to see them simply side-by-side rather than just including Barda (or She-Hulk) in a group. Maybe some follow-up can ensue with the two of them pounding the snot out of some Parademons.
By the way, I don't think I've ever seen Barda or Lashina look so good, in terms of art. Which of the listed artists is responsible?
Nicola Scott. Margo Martindale is a character actress that has been in a ton of movies, from The Rocketeer to Million Dollar Baby, you would probably recognize her if you saw her.
ReplyDeleteI would vote for Pat Carroll. The voice of Ursula the Sea Witch in LITTLE MERMAID '89!
ReplyDeleteAt least, for Ed Asner, Granny Goodness is a (fat) "geezer" and not acting much like a lady.
ReplyDeleteMiriam Margulies would be a good choice as well.
ReplyDeleteBeing as out of touch as I've been with current comics, I naturally had to go look up Nicola Scott. It does kind of figure, to me, that the artist giving us the most believable depiction of female characters would also be the one out of the three who is female herself. Even so, having looked into what she can do, I think she goes even further above just that consideration. If I ever go back to buying comics (and that's no longer out of the question), I'll keep a close eye out for her name.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, where did Ed Asner voice Granny Goodness?
ReplyDeleteDaviticus in the DCAU cartoons starting with Superman: The Animated Series.
ReplyDeleteThe voice in my head for Granny in comics is closer to Large Marge from Pee Wee's Big Adventure, just more evil.
How about Bette Midler for the voice of the latest Granny Goodness? In the most recent anniversary telecast of "Hocus Pocus," I felt she was almost _too_ convincing as the eldest witch-sister!
ReplyDeleteCaroline Quentin could play Granny
ReplyDeleteFor your consideration She-Hulk with Zatanna. girls just wanna have fun - even the Brave and the Bold.
ReplyDelete@F3H: I second that emotion! As Rod Serling might say...
ReplyDelete"Picture, if you will, the Princess of Prestidigitation pulling Hoppy the Shazam Bunny from her hat in order to deal with a Mr. Mind-controlled Jade Giantess. Who on Earth would win?"
@Anonymous: Off-hand, I'd say overgrown fanboys like me. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhy not Angela Lansbury playing Granny in the Mysterious Mister Miracle: the Musical?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous@9, what makes you think it would have to take place on Earth? A mystic realm might keep the mind off balanced.
ReplyDelete@F3homeboy: well, if it's the Jade Giantess being mind-controlled, why not switch the fight to...Gemworld!
ReplyDeleteI second that emotion! Gemworld's overdue for a fourth portrayal, here.
ReplyDeleteMelissa McCarthy!
ReplyDeleteIf you saw her in Justified, there's no one who could replace Margo Martindale for this.
ReplyDeleteBig Mistake Granny Goodness! Infiltration complete.
