Ant-Man and Batman and the Outsiders

There had been talk for a while about M.O.D.O.K. getting an animated series on Hulu, but lately I have been hearing that he may actually be making an appearance in the live action MCU - possibly in the third Ant-Man movie.  It would be great if they can find a way to pull off such a crazy looking character.  They found a way to make Arnim Zola work, so anything's possible, I guess!

  1. It's so weird that no one knows when the MCU will start back up again!...

  2. Actually, even now, the people in charge can have meetings via computers and such. They in turn can talk to their writers and work on concepts and scripts. When you've made a few Billion dollars in movie tickets, Disney can spend a few bucks on different projects and ideas. Result -- when the kingdom, err, realm is reopened, Disney can already be prepared with concepts, scripts, funding, production crews, and so on. Preparations can make so much difference.

  3. Fantastic cover. Got me searching ebay for Outsiders issues.

  4. I think I'd heard something about M.O.D.O.K. being in one of the Disney+ shows, though he's probably more likely for the next Ant-Man movie (and nice job fitting both of those characters on today's cover). He's just the right combination of menace and silliness for that corner of the franchise. I think Brian Cranston would be just right for the role.

@Tobor: So right you are! Zoom, Teams, Hangouts, and similar programs have been a godsend, especially for the arts world. I've taken part in the (Corvallis) Majestic Theatre's "Majesticpiece Theatre" productions on Facebook Live, those being put together (both planning and presentation) via Zoom. (Check out the "Iron Thespian" event on May 16th; it should be loads of fun!)

  6. A good combination. It works really well.
I like the villain too. A great look. Have you ever included any characters from British comics (I know you've done Dress and Marvelman (sorry, showing my age, Miracleman or whatever). I'm thinking of the classic Dan Dare from the 50s/60s. His nemesis was the Mekon: green, tiny body, big head, drifted around on a sort of floating chair. One of the truly iconic Big Bads. I'd love to see Modok and him face off

  7. Can't say I know anything about Dan Dare.

  8. Dan Dare was a true Brit spaceman who made the first trip to Venus (long before Venus was known to be the hellworld that it really is. Amongst the various alien races he encountered there, his main enemies were the Treens, mean, green humanoid reptilians. Their absolute leader was the
    Mekon.
Dan Dare in the Eagle comic in the 1950s was iconic in the UK. The full colour art, by Frank Hampson, was wonderful!
If you know the Daleks from Doctor Who, and their creator, Davros, wizened old guy in a motorized wheelchair... well, apparently, he was at least part modelled on the Mekon...
And at least 2 British politicians (I'll spare you the names) were nicknamed the Mekon... not fondly

  9. @Davejonz - How could you forget the most wonderfullly named punk band called Mekons! I saw a few Dan Dare strips reprinted here after Moore started getting V for vendetta and Marvelman to show up in our comic shops. That post modern stuff didn't take.

  10. Another amazing cover. Hard to tell which cover the yellow blast was originally from. Good work.

Which sedentary character design was first published, MODOK or Metron of the New Gods?

And another suggestion inspired by today's cover : MODOK VS. OMAC

  11. Having gone to look up info on Dan Dare and the Mekon, I now want to see a team-up of Dan with the Hulk, just so they can face the Mekon and the Leader. "The Foreheads of Death!"

I also had a brief glimpse of Bucky O'Hare, whom I would love to see with Captain America... for reasons that I hope are obvious or at least easily deduced.

  12. Maybe Disney's Quasimodo and Marvel's Quasimodo.
